And it’s not “you get what you pay for” when the So long Summer Welcome School T-Shirt and I will buy this entire country had internet connectivity issues because the undersea intercontinental cables had damage and were not being repaired/replaced for months. My point isn’t about what internet plans you can buy. Again, if you are investing millions-billions in tech startups why would you choose a place with unreliable power and internet? Those are key elements to any tech business. “Power outage season” is completely new to me, are you sure this is not for this year only? Because Vietnam has just gone into the hottest period of all time in history due to climate change. From where I’m living, HCM city, we rarely have a power outage, it is like 1-2 times per year, not the whole season.

For the So long Summer Welcome School T-Shirt and I will buy this internet, first of all, most of the undersea cables belongs to third party, if I’m not mistakenly, we only own 1-2 undersea cables over total of 5 (others are rented). The time to fix each cable could take months, and there’s no way you can protect the cables from sharks and boat’s anchors. So, what’s the solution? Vietnam has to build more of its own undersea cables to minimize the impacts; however, as I stated above, we pay $10 per month for 200 mbps, which is pretty cheap compared to many other countries, so of course we have less alternative sources. If you pay the double price, the number of cables could have been double and none of the issues could have occurred. Vietnam needs to fix the country’s public infrastructure first, before dreaming about becoming influential in anything worldwide.
