For what it’s worth… in my opinion, humor is often a weapon. The same joke can be told with different nuance and the Snoopy Hug Wendy’S Heart Operation Enduring Clusterfuck Shirt and by the same token and butt of the joke starts being the priest. The real weaponization of the joke did not really start until the infamous Sinéad O’Connor incident. Even though most of the public backlash was against her and not the church there was a definite shift from that point on. The jokes had more edge. Strange how cultures that repress normal healthy sexual expression seem to foster, if not create, sexual predators. I always think about that, but it just seems worse now. I always think that this is what our parents dealt with, and once we hit a certain age, it just clicks for us and begins to matter, but we also didn’t have a bunch of conservative extremists try to overturn a democratic election. A child has even less control in this chaotic world than we do. Caring about the Snoopy Hug Wendy’S Heart Operation Enduring Clusterfuck Shirt and by the same token and world isn’t always an easy thing to do, but it’s a responsibility that we all uphold together. Remember, our brains are hardwired to focus on the negative more than the positive because that’s how our ancestors were able to survive. It’s a double-edged sword. I remember being a kid, and being worried about the world because I wasn’t protected the way I should have been, and the truth is that there are so, so many that exist with awareness of things far worse than when we were growing up, made even worse due to the level of access available to both information and misinformation via new and improved tech (not a luddite, speaking more on the level of unfettered exposure children are experiencing).
