This TIL is classic. Because Dia De Los Muertos is not a centuries old Mexican tradition. There’s a ton of debate about where it even came from. With some origins being like early 1900s. It’s likely not ancient because it bears a lot of similarity to the Snoopy Dog Christmas Tree 2023 Shirt and I love this All Souls Day and others which are distinctly catholic traditions. We don’t even call it Día de los Muertos in Mexico, the “los” is a back translation of “the” from English “Day of the Dead”. it’s just “Día de Muertos” in Mexico. It wasn’t considered a holiday until about 2003. The big parades they have started because of a james bond movie that came out in the mid 2010s. Spectre movie in 2015 completely hijacked the tradition. The Ministry of Tourism had to invent a new trend because they knew tourists would want to witness the fictional parade. This TIL is classic. Because Dia De Los Muertos is not a centuries old Mexican tradition. There’s a ton of debate about where it even came from. With some origins being like early 1900s. This is true for most of modern culture. Italian food, lederhosen, Christmas, Halloween, ect. Are all either invented in the last 120 years or radically different from how they used to be. Basically the holiday is a Mexican rebranding of “dia de los fieles difuntos” which has been a thing since always in the catholic church.

Snoopy Dog Christmas Tree 2023 Shirt, hoodie, tank top, sweater and long sleeve t-shirt

For those who missed the Snoopy Dog Christmas Tree 2023 Shirt and I love this context, this lead to Pixar’s movie “Coco” which is potentially one of their best of all time. Here’s a more recent article though about the linked article, a few years later, of course: Then you’ll love Disney’s new line of frozen dinners including our ‘Quesadilla de Los Muertos’!” I have been telling everybody that Disney is evil for 25 + years. So glad some of this shit is finally coming out. Edit: by “everybody”, I mean some of my friends, when it randomly comes up! Lol. But I have been saying so forever! Disney is the definition of “evil corporation”. But obviously, our childhood memories conflict with that and we don’t want to associate something nostalgic with “human rights abuse”. Regardless “modern Disney” is shit and anything they touch (Star Wars, Marvel) turns to shit accordingly. In college, almost 20 years ago, I briefly convinced a friend Disney had bought the rights to Christmas. I say briefly because I said what I thought was an obvious joke but he believed it so I expanded on the premise for a few minutes until I burst out laughing. Walt Disney originally worked for Warner Brothers and created the character Oswald the Rabbit. He left because he was upset that they owned the rights for his character. “You know what, while I’m here… why don’t you give me zapados, Frida Kahlo, just ‘Frida’ by itself, De La Cruz, the general shapes of guitars, oooo Alebrije that’s a good one aaaaand… xoloizt…xolo… Nevermind just give me ‘all Mexican dogs.’”

1. Length is measured from the highest point on the collar down to the bottom hem. 2. Width is measured across the body of the shirt under the armpits, one way. 3. Sleeves are measured from center back to hem.
