I once interviewed for a remote job in a startup, and their project was unclear in the Snoopy and Woodstock thankful grateful blessed shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this posting. So I ended up having a rushed interview with the CEO, only to tell me to have another one with the chief engineer the next day. I thought maybe I’ll be able to get more details from him. Turns out the guy acted like it was my first day of work, we hadn’t even discussed compensation, working hours, anything at all, really. The worst part is I interviewed for a project manager position, so they gave me admin access to their Atlassian suite right off the bat, so I could have deleted their entire database if I wanted to. I stopped answering their slack messages after they kept ignoring my inquiries and they eventually revoked my admin rights, but I still have read and edit access to everything to this day. Sometimes I also get a meeting invite. These people are nuts.

Means they drive their employees into the Snoopy and Woodstock thankful grateful blessed shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this ground until they burn out and leave, except they leave so often that management is getting sick of rehiring. But they won’t change their hours or offer more money. The CEO of the company talked to me for three hours, telling me about myself and making assumptions. I spoke maybe 20 minutes of that, he just never shut up. As COO of a smaller company (45 people), I told HR to remove the “family oriented” crap from any job posting. One, it’s just not true. Two, most families I know are kinda fucked up. Three, I don’t want my work colleagues to be family. I always end up firing some here and there and it’s easier if we aren’t “family” (learned that lesson the hard way). Another HUGE red flag for me is “ability to multi task.” There is literally no such thing as multitasking. You cannot work on a P&L audit while simultaneously typing an email. You can bounce back and forth, but you can’t do both. This is a red flag because they will likely expect you to do the work of 1.5 to 2 people. It’s code.
