Whilst that’s true in a real sense, the Smug Mode Smeg Head Red Dwarf Kryten Shirt but in fact I love this church teaching is that the Bible was divinely inspired and every word is that of god. So it wouldn’t be right to say that it was written with an angle to get people to listen or it was of it’s time, because it’s supposed to be timeless and the word of god. The other thing to remember with the Bible is that it wasn’t all written down. It was multiple stories passed around orally then gathered together, then translated multiple times, then a Roman Emperor and his mates decided what was and wasn’t canon, then a couple more translations. Each step tweaks meaning, when you are translating something, you put your own agenda in there through your choices of word. So it’s insane that people take the Bible word perfectly and literally.

That’s an interesting viewpoint I haven’t heard before. Specifically, the Smug Mode Smeg Head Red Dwarf Kryten Shirt but in fact I love this part where the bible is written in a way that appeals the most to the audience. I always interpreted it in a less deliberate way. People are a product of their time and as such worldviews and teachings change organically. That’s also why I think scriptures must always be understood with regards to their historical context. So the Bible is full of stories that people of today have a really hard time to connect with? I guess even christians don’t agree among themselves whats the message behind most passages. There are three different classes of Bibles. Protestant Bibles, Catholic Bibles, and Orthodox Bibles include and exclude different books from one another. There isn’t even consistency amoungth the major branches on what Christians books should be part of the Bible. And obviously how each sect interprets the books varies even further. I assume you’re from the US? Many of the arguments like Megachurches, taking everything from the Bible as 100% literal and other things are mostly an American thing. Historically, that’s not strange. After all, the US were founded by fundamentalist Christians who never took proper root in Europe. I saddens me that people have so bad experiences with religion and others cause it. I hope that one day everyone can heal from their past and look further than “ew Atheist. Ew, religious person”. Stay safe.
