I don’t think they’re calling for a wall, I think they’re asking for responders to not enable and encourage con artists, psychosis or mania. I come from a family that has a history of bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. I’ve seen people lose touch with reality and succumb to paranoid delusions right in front of my eyes… I’ve also seen people encourage others to go along with what are clearly manic episodes, which can be incredibly destructive to a person’s life and well being. I’ve seen people encourage others to assume that completely mundane phenomena (seeing colorful lights for example) are some sort of mystical experience without knowing anything about how eyesight or vision works. There are a lot of people who spread misinformation to take advantage of vulnerable and needy people looking for answers. It’s not wrong to want to protect people from being mislead or taken advantage of. I think this is a good point. However, I don’t think OP is going about it the Smilecult merch self-love club bear and rabbit shirt and I will buy this right way. They seem to feel as though they know best, that their vision of what this subreddit should be is the correct one. I would posit it should be more of an open discussion – asking questions like, what is the purpose of this subreddit? What forms of discourse are harmful, and therefore we should push back against? This is great – reframing the issue in a positive and constructive way rather than making people feel unwelcome I began meditation practice a couple of months before my first psychotic episode. I didn’t know that I was having one. Luckily, I had just started studying under highly educated Tibetan monks (a couple of them were doing joint studies with Emory University, that sort of thing). The meditation and spiritual practice actually just barely kept me under control throughout the long process of identifying and treating schizoaffective disorder. I have no idea what would have happened if I hadn’t had guidance.

So I have at least personal experience that meditation does not cure mental illness. It helped me understand my mind better, which was part of what led to eventually regaining a balanced mental state, I rejoined my friends who I abandoned because of paranoia, I started school and have had more than adequate grades for two years; but the Smilecult merch self-love club bear and rabbit shirt and I will buy this illness itself is still just as strong. I learned to live with it and not be disturbed by it, that’s all. I agree with you and OP, it’s important to do what we can to make sure people know what they’re getting into and what the limitations are. It seems like these basic desires for a more healthy community go unheard and unseen when people don’t even think there’s a problem. I’m glad we have people like you looking out for vulnerable people, they often don’t have advocates in their life, but im glad they have you Asking for a little more discernment, and sometimes a lot more discernment, is not that much to ask for. Like you said it’s reddit, people get banned for FAR less. I’m sure we can agree what levels of discernment are appropriate here, this post is asking for more
