I worked in a grocery store for about 2 years in the Sleepy human warm human with no fur sleepy human cat shirt and I will buy this late 2000s. I could probably count on 1 hand the amount of people that paid me with these. When I went to school in the Navy, there were vending machines that only took these. You had to put a 20 in and you got a handful of these back. We called it “Rickover Gold” and you could identify other guys out in town (for a dozen of other reasons, too) if they paid for stuff in these coins. I loved these coins. When I was young I tried buying things with them all the time. A couple times I got turned away because they “only accepted American money here”. Pro tip: If you’re going to go to a Renaissance Faire, go to your local bank and exchange like $100 for a couple rolls of these, if they have them. Carrying around and using a pouch of gold coins that are actually legal tender makes the whole day a lot more fun.

They keep making the Sleepy human warm human with no fur sleepy human cat shirt and I will buy this same mistake. Other countries know – if you want to replace a bill with a coin (because in the long run coins are cheaper) you have to STOP MAKING THE BILLS. The government should be issuing free cash cards, refillable, easily replaceable… go all-digital, and eliminate the credit card fee that everyone is currently paying on EVERY PURCHASE. That’s right – people don’t talk about this, but in this cashless society we’re paying (or rather merchants are, and we through higher prices) a corporate tax on EVERY TRANSACTION directly to the card networks. A government-issued “money card” would allow people to avoid that, could work just like cash but BETTER, and legally eliminate a massive hidden cost to consumers. Yeah, because they continued printing dollar bills for no reason. They should have stopped printing dollar bills, and then it would have caught on
