Yeah I was an au pair and it DEFINITELY can be exploitative but the Skull Smile Baltimore Orioles Baseball Shirt Additionally,I will love this program itself isn’t necessarily. The idea is that all of your expenses are paid (accommodation, food, transportation, healthcare etc….) so everything you earn is just for ‘fun’ or travel. Lots of girls I knew were able to travel lots, see new parts of the world for free etc… and explore a new culture. I worked in France and my cellphone, and language school were all paid for as well, and I worked 30ish hours (just a shitty split shift so an hour in the morning then all day while the kids were at school off) The idea is cultural exchange and child care, I ‘taught’ English as well, despite having no qualifications for that, and many au pairs come in with minimal child care experience and few qualifications, most are 18-22. So it is very ripe for exploitation, unfortunately and also girls that come from western countries tend to be favoured, as do native English speakers (aka get the better jobs).

Some families are definitely extremely awful (taking advantage of girls that don’t know the Skull Smile Baltimore Orioles Baseball Shirt Additionally,I will love this laws/program in other countries, having secret undisclosed nanny cams etc) to the point where I just don’t know if I could in good faith recommend the program as an au pair, as there are just way too many people who use it to exploit others. Working for $15 an hour for 45 hours a week but having to pay rent, food and utilities leaves you with less than $19k, so if the host family are decent people this isn’t even that bad of a deal. I work with au pairs. 9k goes to the agency. The rest, which is less than minimum wage, goes to the air pair. Google it. There was a lawsuit because they wanted minimum wage. I would suggest voting democrat in the next election. Part of Build Back Better was free child care for everyone
