Who’s gonna tell these scientists that solar power already makes it down to the Skull Metallica Baltimore Orioles Flag Shirt Also,I will get this surface of the planet without any help? That’s incredible! Maybe we can make some protective orbital panels. If they can move between us and the sun, there’s a potential to regulate the planet’s temperature. That would very easily fuck up the ecosystem. All life on earth evolved to live in a world with changung temperatures and climate, and changing that would just brrak that balance. Just reducing the global temperature by 1°C would be enough, we just have to reduce human impact on shit that we aren’t interacting with. This isn’t a totally impossible idea. There’s something called a Lagrange point that is a stable orbit between two larger objects where it’s easy to stay in the same spot relative to them. For example, there’s a spot not too far from the earth directly between the earth and the sun where you can have a satellite stay put pretty well. But to block enough light to actually make any difference on earth, it would need to be hundreds to thousands of km long and wide. You could also do things like not quite block all the light, but reflect it ever so slightly to increase the light reaching far northern/southern latitudes and decrease the light hitting middle latitudes, which would expand the amount of the earth that is livable. Even if it takes that much effort, I think the continuation of the human race is a worthy cause for it. I would put it together myself if i could. We already manufacture thousands of solar panels a year, I’m sure we can crank out a lot for that application, too.

It would take far, far less effort for us to just curb our CO2 output. Like, many orders of magnitude less effort, cost, etc. The largest object in space today is the Skull Metallica Baltimore Orioles Flag Shirt Also,I will get this ISS, which is 109m long and 73m wide, so around 8000 m2 or so. It cost $100B to build. Unfortunately, I fear people are far too selfish for that. Entire industries are entrenched in practices that crank it out. Even if we curb CO2 and avoid the current crisis, we could end up with another from a different source. Having a backup plan is always wise. Though if I stole Bezo’s or Musk’s fortune I’d be tempted to spend it all on a crazy construction project in space. There is no way this is cost efficient, and I note no data on how much energy transmitted, its efficiency, nor the effective cost per unit of setting this up and transmitting it. We have ample ground based sites for solar; buildings, car parks, roads etc, that could be covered in solar panels long before we need to go into space to do this. So cloudy days how much power is lost? How much power is produced during night, how much more power can be produced without an atmosphere damping the sunrays?
