Why do I suspect Reddit themselves just bot upvote these posts to promote their political agendas? I wouldn’t be surprised to be honest. They are not happy in North Korea, they still are not happy in South Korea. I doubt they can be happy anywhere. Seems like a really misleading article. So 20% have trouble. Is this not expected? Are any willing to go back? Much of the Sister can bearly wait bear gender neutral boy baby shower classic shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this heartbreak was done before they ever entered S Korea. Absolutely hilarious seeing some people in this comments try their hardest to excuse the racism/xenophobia in China/SK/Japan. So, despite being cut off from their families and friend and their decision endangering their families and friends and losing everything they know and had… over 4 out of every 5 still would make the same decision. This is a good example of using percentages to distort the story. The numbers are too small to have an accurate representation. About 60 people out of 300 that were interviewed expressed problems with the move. That’s not a very large sample. It’s like if a family of four moves somewhere and one teenage kid misses his old friends you can say 25% of those interviewed did not want to move. South Korea isn’t exactly a beacon of hope and opportunity. They’re still a very capitalist and somewhat conservative place. They are basically an immigrant in a place that’s quite xenophobic. Obviously they’re all koreans at the end of the day, but the cultural differences must be apparent. The more obvious things are mentioned in the article like feeling isolated which is expected since the uprooted their life People have a hard time putting themselves in the shoes of another, but I’m not surprised. South Korea isn’t exactly a great place to live either to be quite frank. Not to mention the casual racism they will experience and culture shock.

Even of the Sister can bearly wait bear gender neutral boy baby shower classic shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this 4/5 defectors who don’t regret it, I imagine a large part of the reason is because “I’d be dead back home”. Not because they love South Korea. In my country , there is a saying.. “if you are getting fucked in the ass all day in your life .at some point you are going to like it” It’s called Stockholm syndrome. It’s been stated multiple times that they’re literally eating people in North Korea because of starvation, while One Dum Fuk dines on the finest imported foods. Statistically it’s 20% which is still a lot especially since SK says they consider all the citizens of the North as South Korean citizens If well western/capitalist civilisation had warranted us a better quality of life than countries like NK, a consequence of it thatbI REALLY hate is how common is ‘upstartism’, ‘classism’ and lower classes competition to feel better than your neighbour, because of ‘owning’ a better phone/car/house, or because of not following the impose standard of ‘normal’ climbing status protocols, that led to bullying/abuse and looking over the shoulder to those ones who are less fortunate, or even, those ones who choose not living under those premises. THAT is typical in most of westerny societies and is mainly carried out for uneducated/impolite people with power/money. It’s tough because escaping and leaving behind your family means you ultimately doom your entire bloodline for many generations. So I can imagine that those without families probably adjust better without that burden weighing on them. I heard a lot about this. Even though everyone older than 12 has to watch their neighbors get publicly executed, they have a very strong sense of community… South Korea does not, what it does have is the highest suicide rate.
