Being heavy isn’t always a “choice” per se. Genetics, family upbringing/culture, economic status, education, addiction, sedentary work, trauma, health issues, medication, mental health, time available, age, all can play factors that affect someone’s weight or appearance of weight. Some people just store weight different, too, and can look big in some areas that seem fat. I’ll say this from someone who went from always lean to dad bod back to rad bod, there’s no way I could’ve gone back to rad bod if I was working 12 hrs/day, multiple jobs, + commute like I used to. Size absolutely has a genetic component, and I’m always amazed at how many people think weight loss is an even playing field for everyone. I work a sedentary job, only exercise occasionally, drink alcohol (not a lot at a time, but pretty regularly), only eat healthily when I feel like it, and generally could be putting in more A LOT more effort. They’ve all lost a little weight here and there, but they’ve generally all stayed ‘plus’ over the years.
