Nighttime water gets covered with something, maybe a coaster, maybe a sheet of folded paper, maybe a random lid that covers the glass. It stops dust settling in it, bugs from drinking it (in the unfortunate cases of hide-and-seek mosquitoes in the room), and it stops carbon dioxide and other airborne or gaseous substances from dissolving in it. So the technical reason for the stale taste of water is because Carbon Dioxide, CO2, will dissolve into the water as it sits, acidifying the solution and adding the “sour” taste. In addition to the cat hair, dust and human skin. Stir it up to release the CO2 and it tastes like room temperature water again. Can’t drink an opened bottled water after 3-4 days. Literally smell your water bottle before you drink it, if it smells, that’s no bueno. I feel like you’re not sure how water works. For me Longer than 4 hours of open cup it’s plant or cat water. In a bottle that’s already been open but recapped then about a week. No science to it or anything but I think a glass of water over 12 hours of sitting should be used for something else. Roughly 1-3 hrs depends on the Sierra Ballard shirt also I will do this water and the place. But personally I drink bottled water and I if I go to bed I’m either finishing the bottle in the morning or I will refuse to drink it Idk I just drank a glass of water that’s been there for about four days.
