I can only speak of the Shohei Ohtani Unicorn art shirt and by the same token and one instance I saw on a doco about methamphetamine use in San Francisco but supposedly some of the homeless ppl migrate to Palm Springs area in the winter because of the climate. I was a little surprised when the interviewee mention this… had me asking how do they get there… was suprised by the response and thought of birds migrating south EMT here. Some homeless go to shelters if there’s room. Some call 911 (or have someone call for them) to be transported to the hospital for some made up complaint (chest pain, shortness of breath, suicidal ideations, leg pain, back pain, etc. – pretty much anything. CP and SOB would give them a longer time to be evaluated [read: longer time to spend at the hospital], so those who have done it before know what to say. Suicidal ideations would likely get them a hold). We transport the same people over and over again, and often the nurses know them by name. We must transport them and treat each BS complaint as legit because one day it could really be a heart attack or something else dangerous. In the ER, once evaluated, depending on how busy the hospital is and who the charge nurse is, they might stay the night or be discharged. If discharged, they might be allowed to stay in the waiting room.

Some of them will migrate to warmer areas, this is how places like LA end up with so many homeless because the Shohei Ohtani Unicorn art shirt and by the same token and weather is always nice there, you can have nothing and will likely not die of exposure. Otherwise, they find shelter, blankets, and jackets and make fires. If they’re lucky, there’s space in a homeless shelter where they can spend the coldest parts of the day in a heated room with a bed. If they can’t find warmth, they unfortunately can and do freeze to death. I used to live in the desert and homeless people were found often overheated to death on the streets because they couldn’t find good shelter from the heat. It’s very sad and there’s just not enough resources to help them. Here they call a code blue to try to collect people and cram more into overcrowded shelters. Many refuse, some die. Fucked up
