Shohei Ohtani, the remarkable two-way star from Japan, made history once again on July 24, 2021, in a game that will forever be remembered as “A Game for the Ages.” Ohtani took the mound as the starting pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers, facing off against the San Francisco Giants and their ace, Kevin Gausman. The game was highly anticipated, not only because of the presence of two of baseball’s brightest stars but also because it marked Ohtani’s first start as a pitcher in the Major Leagues since 2018.

In a stunning display of dominance, Ohtani pitched seven scoreless innings, striking out 10 Giants batters. He allowed just two hits and one walk, showcasing his exceptional pitching prowess. At the plate, Ohtani also contributed, going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. His performance at the plate and on the mound made him only the second player in Major League history to start a game as a pitcher and have at least 10 strikeouts and two hits.
