But he decides if he wants to try a new food. Forcing something on him would/will never work, and I’m not going to stress him out. He will never be the most adventurous eater, but at this point, his diet includes a lot more foods with nutrients and vitamins. He’s growing rapidly, and he is healthy- that is all that matters to me. The biggest thing for me is consistency and therapy. Since he’s so young, I’m not sure talk therapy (CBT, DBT, etc) would be super useful, but you could always work on early intervention and look into neurodivergent diagnoses. I know SLP’s also work with children on eating and swallowing. Biggest things are to encourage, keep things positive, and work with a medical team. My daughter was a similar age when we started Speech Therapy for her food aversions. The main thing we learned was to use a waterfall approach to push her comfort level, but never push past it. Always praise trying, not actually eating. Allow it to be yucky.
