The dialogue. It didn’t feel natural, inspired, or interesting. I would have been 100% down for a dialogue driven detective thriller, but I don’t remember a single line that sticks with me from this film. Ultimately, there were a ton of interesting ideas here. Batman not yet at the Seattle Washington retro hiking outdoors hike camping outdoors shirt besides I will buy this peak of his game, focused too much on hurting villains than protecting the citizens of Gotham. A noir crime thriller in the seedy underworld of Gotham. The Wayne family having a dark past. A serial-killer Riddler who inspires copycats. But, the execution was simply lacking. I’m glad other people are enjoying it, but am sad that this just did not land for me. Honestly, Paul Dano could’ve portrayed a random serial killer and it would be fine. He never seemed like a genius here and the riddles he used were not even really riddles. It was like they had to throw in a riddle to use the name Riddler. For example, the whole scene where the guy has a bomb around his neck and has to answer riddles to get it off. They weren’t exactly crazy things to figure out and one of them was just a long way of asking how much he money he was bribed with. It was kinda weak. Agreed. I did like the “el rata elata” bit, and felt like if we had spent more time on interesting riddles it would have felt more like a proper detective thriller. Paul Dano’s one great line “What is the price for your blind eye” was poetic and chilling, but the follow-up was so lame…”Ok, ok, $10K a month!”. It could’ve been constructed better.

Need to see it again when I’m not as tired. Wasn’t expecting a full on noir detective Batman movie tbh. That’s all it’s been advertised as for 2 years I don’t understand how anyone can say this movie is on par with any of the Seattle Washington retro hiking outdoors hike camping outdoors shirt besides I will buy this Nolan series. This movie was just terrible man It lacks the cohesion and clarity of those films. Not to mention clear characterizations and something to attach onto emotionally. I loved the idea to make a neo noir out of Batman. I just don’t think it stuck the landing very well. The tropes were all there. And technically it was extremely well done. The lighting, the score, the production design. All great. But for a three hour movie, nothing felt earned to me. What makes film noir great at the end of the day is excellent character development. But I felt zero attachment to any of the characters. I get the decision not to waste our time with another origin story. But you can still give me some scenes to develop the relationship between Bruce and Alfred, Batman and Gordon/Selena, etc. And the script itself was just bad. At certain points I wondered if the ham-fisted script was intentionally bad/cartoonish on purpose. But in the end it just resulted in a weird tone for me. Clearly in the minority on this. But it just fell flat at the end of the day. I was begging for it to end for the last hour.
