I’m a woman in tech, slightly older, in the Seattle Kraken Fanatics Mascot 2023 sport shirt and by the same token and same geographic area. I find myself leaning heavily into the Eileen Fisher look. I do a combo of her crepe straight leg pants and undyed straight leg jeans with some kind of boxy but hip length top. It’s a simple uniform that has been working for me! Shoe wise, I tend to do the generic All Birds or Superga sneakers but you can go all out here. I regularly wear my Gucci loafers or Chanel ballet flats but you can wear whatever heels you want Wear whatever you want. No one really cares. It’s still cold here. If you really wanna feel like you fit in, bring a puffer jacket. Those will never go out of style lmao Since you’re on a special visit, try a little bit, for example pants that aren’t jeans, shirts that aren’t tees (at least one of these options per outfit) but i think you’ll find the local in person workers just wearing whatever. Bring/enjoy/receive your corporate or non corporate columbia zip up or puffy vest cause they really are ideal for the SF climate! I work in tech in Paris. I feel when it comes to outfits anything goes. A few female colleagues are more dressed up with blouses, trousers & a smart shoe, and others are super casual in sneakers, jeans & hoodies. In general though I find majority of people dress in a more relaxed, low-key way outside of events or customer meetings. I think you’d be fine sticking to « the uniform ».

Get it in the black with plaid stripes. So soft, works with everything. You will get your money’s worth. some sort of layer. Get yourself a shacket in a neutral color and you’ll get a lot of mileage on it. City weather changes drastically. Edit to add: If you want to look more fashionable/professional, oversized blazer over the jeans is always an easy look! I don’t do a lot of hoodies or long cardigans. personally my go to is a midi skirt, ankle boots, tee, denim jacket. im also horrible to comment on this because I don’t pay too much attention to trends and tend to pick items for my body type and then pick colors for my happy levels 🙂 VC for women either west or east coast imo is iykyk quiet casual luxury. Expensive but not a lot of obvious labels. West is generally more casual but not hugely different than similar VC finance on east coast. London can be similar to NY imo but depending on firm can be a bit more formal for women. Some of the fashion press have been writing about the ongoing trend of “rich working bitch fashion” and I do think there might be something to the title as there are similarities and subtle differences across the globe in VC/finance world which itself can be quite different from the more casual working firm folks imo. It’s curious to travel around and see the differences in how people dress and try to figure out whether fashion plays much of a role in finance or tech culture worlds? I’m excluding Asia here as from my experience it’s somewhat different. Some of the press have latched on to the styling on the tv show succession or even what someone like gwyneth Paltrow wore to her trial last two weeks to describe the look and I do see many women dressing like this and mixing it up with high street brands with a classic look with a simple but luxe focus. Hard to define but definitely iykyk imo.
