He could have said “im really nervous about this breakfast, I can tell it means a lot to you so I want to get it right, how about the Scream Horror Skull Shirt moreover I love this weekend/day before we do a test run on the meal together so you can show me how it’s done. I know teaching someone how to cook can be a lot of work, so I’ll do the dishes after to say thank you for being so patient” There’s a million things he could have done aside from what he did. Did he get you flowers or a gift? Did he say thank you for prepping for him and making it so easy? Did he apologize for ruining the kitchen? Dodged a bullet there! Trust me when I say this, cuz I just about ended up with my house on fire due to making an ex cook. He fell asleep with a pan on the stove, waiting for it to heat up….. Came home to my house filled with smoke and my best pan ruined. He barely worked and didn’t clean or do the bills. I will say this: asking this man for breakfast in bed may have been setting him up for failure lol. Even if he wasn’t a complete doorknob, I’ll give him that poaching an egg and cooking bacon was probably a bit of a leap, even if you did do all the prep work. You had to have known this would be a disaster lmao. On top of your saintly patience I feel like you have far too much faith in people.

OP, the Scream Horror Skull Shirt moreover I love this problem isn’t that he couldn’t cook. It’s that he didn’t help in any way, shape or form and expected to be waited on hand and foot while crapping up your house. Also he weaponized that incompetence. He probably deliberately made a huge mess then acted like he was “exhausted” counting on you to a) never ask him for help on anything again and b) convincing you he absolutely cannot do what even an 8-year-old can do. Nope. This is a grown adult. I’m wondering how he even holds a job. Does he even work? Because it sure sounds like a lot of his time was spent at your place just bummign around. If he hadn’t cooked, but had done everything else like show up with groceries, helped clean and had been considerate of your time and energy then I’m sure you would not have broken up with him. Don’t let him run the narrative that it’s “just because I don’t cook” that you broke with him. Tell people it’s that he expected to be waited on hand and foot, wasn’t contributing anything and demanded more care and energy than your own kids, and taking time away from them by being so useless and lazy he may as well have not been there at all.
