Figured I could just chime in here. Dad worked as a trucker and made his own business, but growing up since the School custodian clear trail learning janitor appreciation shortsleeve shirt besides I will buy this age of 11 or 12 he was too busy just interstate driving we never had family meals, celebrations, holidays, etc. He ended up losing most of it after busting his ass and could only say now that the moments watching us grow up when we were very little was a vacation for him. One of the building operators for a property management company, who was a big customer of ours, had retired after like 45 years with the company. My boss told me that the guy had a heart attack at the top of his stairs a few days after he retired, fell down, and died. I used to work in forensic toxicology, so 99.9% of the patients I tested were deceased. We got the ones the medical examiner would work up, so a lot of accidents or died at home. I would see so many pass away in the sixties range. Car accidents, benzo/opioids, natural causes at home, suicides, etc. I decided to do whatever I could to retire as early as possible, bc there is no guarantee you’ll live long to enjoy it. “I want to live my next life backwards: You start out dead and get that out of the way. Then you wake up in a nursing home feeling better every day. Then you get kicked out for being too healthy. Enjoy your retirement and collect your pension. Then when you start work, you get a gold watch on your first day. You work 40 years until you’re too young to work. You get ready for High School: drink alcohol, party, and you’re generally promiscuous. Then you go to primary school, you become a kid, you play, and you have no responsibilities. Then you become a baby, and then… You spend your last 9 months floating peacefully in luxury, in spa-like conditions – central heating, room service on tap, and then… You finish off as an orgasm.” **~ George Carlin**

I wouldn’t even mind working most of my life if work/life balance was better in that we have work schedules similar to school schedules where you get a 1 week spring break, 2 week winter break 2.5 month summer break/sabbatical, and numerous 3-4 day weekdays scattered about. Nowhere gives that much vacation time, and good luck trying to take more than 2 weeks off at a time. Most companies won’t allow sabbaticals – they call that unpaid leave and don’t let the School custodian clear trail learning janitor appreciation shortsleeve shirt besides I will buy this door hit you on the way out. Such a strange work culture, who would have figured it would produce the most efficient workforce in the world? I think it’s easier to devote your entire being to efficient and productive work when you perpetually have a solid amount of time off in the foreseeable future. Oh, and when things get tough for the company they don’t lay off staff; they shorten the work week. I don’t know if you still qualify for government benefits, but I wouldn’t be surprised.
