I rarely if ever eat lobster and crab for that reason. Also because I relate to them more than anything so I can’t be eating my homies, it’s basically cannibalism. I didn’t eat them even before I became vegetarian because of that. I wouldn’t eat lamb or veal, either, because they’re babies. Personally I’d rather just buy a frozen lobster than kill a live one myself, but in the situation where a live lobster is being cooked the average person doesn’t know how to use a knife to instant kill it like chefs often do. When I was a child I drew up plans for breaking into my local grocery store to free the poor creatures and take them down to the beach. My Dad found them, and that was the end of that, but there are days I’m still tempted. Seeing them in those tanks makes me feel a special kind of rage. Here in Oz I like to sit them in a bucket of fresh water for a couple of hours, it makes them expel poop and they also die. Then I cook them.
