They’re not. Consumer debt, particularly the Scar Lion King I’m surrounded by idiots shirt Also,I will get this “bad” kind (credit cards, personal loans, auto), is at an all-time high. Debt-to-GDP ratio is approaching 130%. We’re adding nearly a trillion dollars to the debt per MONTH. And yet, as you say, wages are not growing even close to the pace that we’re debasing the dollar. Delinquent mortgages are on the rise again, student loans just kicked in again, and we’re starting to see layoffs ramp up. We missed another jobs report this month. Historically things don’t actually get bad until the Fed pivots and starts cutting rates, so we have that to look forward to. My advice to you is this—if you have any low-interest loans lying around, like 3-4%, don’t make extra payments on that shit. Just pay what they ask. You’re throwing wealth away if you make extra payments. The dollar is eroding so much faster than 3% lol. You’ll be amazed how cheap that loan payment is gonna seem in a few years. Same concept as a mortgage—it hurts for a little while but 10 years later the payment is feeling much cheaper. If I haven’t sold you yet—consider you can get a 4.5% return on savings accounts right now. Which means you can be paid to park your money instead of making extra payments on your principal. Inflation is still gonna bend you over, but at least you can use that money for literally anything other than paying down a debt that is actually getting smaller over time

You control your wages and you control whether you live paycheck to paycheck or not. Plenty of people who make less than you live below their means. It’s actually that simple. Many if they can, combine households, or know they have others they think they can fall back on. They likely don’t realize those folks they think they can turn to are probably just as bad off as they are. That being said the Scar Lion King I’m surrounded by idiots shirt Also,I will get this threshold for a good living wage is climbing and climbing while wages themselves just aren’t going at the same rate so the amount of people in your situation is increasing by the year unfortunately I’m just to say in the top 11 percent of income for Canadians and in single + have a roommate paying me rent, I’ll be honest I’m not the most financially responsible, but I’m still a far cry away from where people were making what I make 10 years ago and I see myself getting farther from a healthy middle class wage and getting closer to a living wage by the year, which is fucked for being in the top 11 percent, I have absolutely no idea how people making less than me are raising families and paying their bills in this economy
