To be fair with the Saturday Superstore Shirt and by the same token and new Trek (and the newest season of Picard was pretty solid!) they kinda threw subtlety and allegory out the window. When you have the cast come to modern day and have them fight with ICE and the Police directly, have very obvious (beating you over the head) people who are just person X with a different name, it’s a bit of a far cry from older Trek, which had far more tact. Like hey, here’s an ideal future and something to strive for, here’s a life lesson that’s applicable in the modern setting, versus what they did in season 2 especially. Star Trek had a literal Nazi planet episode. One season later, their episode about racism featured two dudes whose skin patterns were literally just two different arrangements of black-and-white. About twenty-three years later, Star Trek: the Next Generation feature an episode about a person defying their society’s gender norms and being ‘cured’ by force. Only six years later, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine had its own episode about racism where the Black captain finds himself living a different life in the early 1950s. Just two years later, *Star Trek: Voyager” aired an episode critical of our healthcare system where the ship’s doctor finds himself kidnapped to a planet where only the wealthy, well-to-do, and well-connected can receive actual healthcare. The fourth Star Trek movie is literally about savings whales so our future isn’t at risk. The subtlety and allegory to which you refer is more saved for more nuanced topics, like the dangers of a completely interconnected computer network as seen in the last two episodes of Star Trek: Picard. Other than that, Star Trek has been about as subtle as William Shatner’s acting.

What I’m nervous about is how easy those things are to make. The threats go on all the Saturday Superstore Shirt and by the same token and time, I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop. So far, mostly just threats. Yup, but by reporting it this way, the right can claim “false flag by the gays and liberals! It’s a war against Christian values!” They know it’s enough to just call in a threat to get what they want. They have no intention of actually doing anything — but they want to use the constant threat of violence to control situations they don’t like. Importantly, the use of fear to pursue a political agenda. Just causing fear isn’t illegal, but the intent behind it, is. Scaryism? No, that doesn’t seem right. Fearistic? That feels off too. If only there was a word that could convey the terror they want people to feel through their actions… damn. Well, maybe one day we’ll figure out a good name for it. Yeah the danger really is that since we’re now just…used to nutjubs using violence to advance their political aims, it only really takes someone crying wolf for every one to immediately be on edge. No, it wasn’t. A hoax is “a humorous deception.” This was a terrorist act. The fact that there was no bomb placed does not change the fact that the phone call itself was an act designed to manipulate behavior through the application of threats and fear. TMZ is saying the bomb threats originated from an LGBTQ+ ally, but it’s light on the details and doesn’t really explain how they know the person is an ally, and it’s TMZ, so I don’t know what’s true and what’s not. Here’s the link if you would like to read it for yourself.
