They’re just using late 1300-early 1400 wording. You can just start quoting Beowulf to annoy them with your archaic anachronisms. There’s always an older version of language to draw upon.

As someone else stated, this is a feature of AAVE, African American Vernacular English, and the Santana 1977s Pop Art American rock band T-Shirt but in fact I love this dialect uses a pronunciation that dates back over 1000 years. yeah, it’s almost like languages are complicated and have a myriad of interpretations that are valid, which is why dialects exist!! This word reminds me of an English test I had in grade 8. I’m German and English is a foreign language for me. In an English test we had some words and we had to write sentences where we used these words. One of the words was “salmon”. I had no idea what it meant and just wrote: “There was a salmon downtown.” I don’t think either of these are pronunciation errors. They’re worse than that, they are instances of people using the wrong word entirely.
