I am rambling here a bit but my point is put yourself first; if I die today their only concerns are filling my position not looking out for my family. Consult legal advice if you have to but put yourself first when it comes to employment. Ask for it in writing. Tell them a probationary period is definitely reasonable but in the Santa Butt If you don’t like Chicago Cubs merry kissmyass christmas Shirt In addition,I will do this same reasoning and logic there must be a timeline with set compensation increase in writing. Research what your boss was making. Ask for the low end of the scale. I am guessing they let your boss go because they decided he/she was not adding enough value and you were already doing most of the job. You will be taking on conflict resolution and other management responsibilities. Maybe read some management books like 1 Minute Manager and The Three Signs of a Miserable Job.

I’ve actually went through this kind of, except my boss got promoted to a different position. I was asked to lead the department as the manager, I didn’t receive the title or pay the job typically pays. They put me through another “probation” period. I guess where mine differed is they gave me a temporary title and a slight pay increase during my “training”. Think I got an extra dollar ish with an assistant manager title during probation. After about 2-3 months I told them I felt comfortable handling the job as a whole, and they did actually give me the title and the pay. I did not sign a contract or have anything in writing stating they would on so and so condition. Maybe you can ask for the middle ground of a slight title/pay bump during the transition process since it is more responsibilities?
