At the bleakest depths of the extreme metal realm, where caverns echo with blood-curdling howls and the air thickens with primordial stench, resides Sanguisugabogg. This enigmatic quartet from Ohio has emerged as a harbinger of abject horror, crafting music that plumbs the abyss of human depravity and sonic brutality.

Sanguisugabogg

Hailing from the unforgiving Midwest, Sanguisugabogg coalesced in 2015, their name a testament to the parasitic bloodsucking leeches that infest the putrefying swamps of their imagination. Led by the guttural roars of vocalist Cody Davidson, the band’s lineup is completed by guitarist Cameron Boggs, bassist Chris Dick, and drummer Jake Superchi.

Together, this unholy quartet wields a primitive and uncompromising sound that defies categorization. Their music is a cacophony of bone-rattling riffs, pummeling drums, and earsplitting vocals. It’s a primal onslaught that evokes the horrors of war, pestilence, and madness.

Sanguisugabogg’s debut EP, “Tortured Whole,” released in 2016, hinted at their immense potential. However, it was their full-length debut album, “Gore,” that cemented their reputation as one of the most viscerally depraved acts in heavy metal. The album’s cover art, depicting a sickly green hand emerging from a pool of blood, serves as a chilling portent of the horrors to come.

About this Sanguisugabogg

From the opening notes of “Devouring Tongue,” Sanguisugabogg unleashes a torrential downpour of relentless brutality. Davidson’s vocals are a torrent of guttural filth, bellowing tales of gore, violence, and despair. The guitars buzz and grind like rusty chainsaws, while the drums thunder like the hooves of a horde of demons.
The standout tracks on “Gore” include the title track, a sickeningly infectious anthem of mutilation; “Face Ripped Off,” a sonic depiction of extreme violence; and “Horrid Visage,” a slow-burning nightmare that culminates in a cataclysmic crescendo.
In 2020, Sanguisugabogg returned with their sophomore album, “Homicidal Ecstasy,” which further solidified their status as purveyors of unadulterated sonic filth. The album’s cover art, featuring a disembodied head impaled on a stake, is a gruesome testament to the band’s unflinching commitment to horror.
