I’m in my 30s and recently I showed my little brother (early 20s) a movie I remembered seeing as a kid “the Sandy Jardine Scottish professional footballer who played for Rangers T-Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this witches” by Roland Dahl I hadn’t watched it in like 20 or so years so I forgot a good amount of the movie anyways were watching it and I begin to notice things that at first I brushed off as just odd choices but as the movie progressed my brain started connecting dots I paused the movie maybe halfway in pulled out my phone and looked up if I was crazy or if this movie was as insanely antisemitic as I thought and I wasn’t crazy it’s literally a checklist for antisemitic conspiracies What’s even more crazy is they remade this movie in 2020 I haven’t seen it but I don’t know how it couldn’t be antisemitc it’s like Dahl copypasted conspiracies from Wikipedia and changed every instance of jew to witch and hit print

Sandy Jardine Scottish professional footballer who played for Rangers T-Shirt, hoodie, tank top, sweater and long sleeve t-shirt

I loved the Sandy Jardine Scottish professional footballer who played for Rangers T-Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this book The Witches as a kid. When I found out that the entire thing is basically an antisemitic dumpster fire, I was so sad. If your question is “why is [evil and/or negative thing] depicted like this?” the answer “because amtisemitism” is more likely than a coin flip. i hate to break this to you about the first one…. unsure about orcs but there’s a reason JKR’s depiction of goblins that control the banks in harry potter is so yikes It’s a usual fantasy-trope for Goblins/Gnomes to depict them like this. World of Warcraft may have been released in 2004, so quite a while after Harry Potter, but I don’t believe the greedy criminal cartell goblins in there were that much inspired by Rowlings writing.
