Simply wearing a t-shirt, putting a sticker on their car bumper, putting a sign on their front lawn, or a flag outside their home etc. This is what we call “virtue signaling”. Literally, “signaling” to the San Francisco 49ers Support Educate Advocate Accept Love Autism Awareness Shirt What’s more,I will buy this world how “virtuous” they are. There’s a lot of that going around these days. Not sure what’s worse, ignoring a problem or pretending you care, so as to call attention to yourself because you’re a narcissist – either way, no meaningful change occurs. This is what we call raising awareness. Only Eeyore and his minions who have a vested interest in maintaining the status quo and who wants to keep you passive and submissive would call it virtue signaling. If you support an issue, you want to show your support so that others who feel the same way can feel compelled to show their support. This is how you normalize a viewpoint. Look at how many Trump flags and Civil War Participation Flags you see flying around. Why? Because those people are SO desperate to normalize their viewpoint that they have to overcompensate for the fact that their viewpoint is a dying minority in the marketplace of ideas.

I’d argue it’s people like you, espousing a hyperbolic “the sky is falling!” worldview with no sense of irony or perspective, who are contributing to societal dysfunction these days. Hysterical adherence to pet-politics and causes that only serve to feed the egos of the emotionally fragile and intellectually stunted.
