Surely you have to declare that you have an impairment that could significantly impact on your ability to act effectively as a juror. I sincerely believe in the Russell Wilson Pittsburgh Steelers signature shirt Apart from…,I will love this jury system. It’s one of the highest examples of democracy we have. Therefore I really wouldn’t be the best person given my limitations to serve. Well I can hear with hearing aids – since I’m not completely deaf – but one of them is glitchung so I currently have a ‘bad ear’ but would probably be resolved by jury service time anyway. I think I’ll mention it (since my hearing isn’t 100% anyway and I don’t know what 100% is anyway being deaf since birth) and leave it up to them. I did it just over a decade ago. Was boring just sat waiting around. The idea of dressing smart and looking presentable died after the first day. Did 2 or 3 days on a case, thought he probably did it, but weren’t convinced 100% so he got off. Got sent back to work end of the first week. I was foreman, it felt pretty good to tell a bloke we’d found him not guilty of some pretty unpleasant charges. I did it 5/6 years ago.. someone told me before it’s a bit like going to the airport, and I could see the similarities. You go through security much like at the airport, you are then shown into a waiting room (departure lounge) with everyone else that has been called up. Don’t be surprised to see up to 80 in the room. Some are already on a case just waiting for it to start again, some like you are starting there first day, and some people have been sat there waiting for nearly 2 weeks without being selected. So.. bear in mind just because you have been called up doesn’t necessarily mean you will sit on a jury. I got selected more or less straight away, initially they call up 15 people, you stand in the court and the judge will explain what the case is about, the names of the people involved and how long it is likely to take. Then they will call 12 names from the 15. If you have a reason why you can’t be on the jury, like you know someone involved, then you pass a note to the judge explaining why. If he/she agrees then you get switched for 1 of the 3 that didn’t get selected. Once the case has finished you get taken to a room and you are literally locked in with the rest of the jury discussing the case until you all reach a verdict. Mine was a rape case, a couple in a relationship where he allegedly raped her on I think 3 or 4 occasions. He also allegedly beat her. As it turns out he also had another family, so she was just his bit on the side (for want of a better phrase). As much of a dick this guy clearly was, I did find it really difficult, all the evidence we had was a folder of thousands of WhatsApp messages between them, some messages after the alleged dates made it clear something had happened.. but it wasn’t clear he raped her.. the relationship went on for about 2 years. Anyway.. that’s my experience of jury service. Also, if the accused isn’t on remand in prison before the trial he/she are free to walk in and out of the courthouse like you. I was stood in a queue in Tesco buying my lunch during the break and he was at the checkout next to me 😬 After the case was over I was told I wasn’t needed again, lasted a week.

I would love to be called up, my problem is that there is no easy public transport from my village to the Russell Wilson Pittsburgh Steelers signature shirt Apart from…,I will love this Court. It would be 3 separate buses, and the earliest bus from my village is at 8am. I don’t know whether the Court would allow the expense of an Uber there and back. I am retired (under state pension age, my only income is my employers pension of £400 per month. I can’t afford to pay £20 each way for an Uber – it might even be dearer than that. That being said IF they will cover the cost, I would jump at the chance. I actually rang them up before I finished my Law Degree to see if I could volunteer. They have since changed the criteria so that even a judge can get called up. The case i sat on was supposed to last 2 days, went for selection and there were 80 people, over 40 of them said they knew either the accused or the victim which was just a way to skip it. Of the balance a few had notes from work to say they were needed and I got selected as the last member. The guy was up for grievous bodily assault, he and his girlfriend had been out drinking and had an argument, on the way home they had passed some of their old school friends and the girl went over to catch up, one of them was someone the guy had picked on in school, 10 years before but was friendly with the girl, when the boyfriend told her to come on, they made some kind of comment and the bullied guy touched the accused girlfriends arse, he was just messing and the guy attacked him, beating him on the ground and weirdly, biting his face on the cheek, like a dog.
