They’ll insult their relatives with petty and demeaning words, they driver fucking terribly, they don’t care about the environment and when you call them out on their shit or challenge them in any way your whole family would ostracise you. I think if you take the time and explain the situation to a Boomer in a calm, rational tone (and have examples and data to cite) they will listen if they’re even a little reasonable. At least that was the experience I had with my father. He’s a Boomer (born in 1952) and I’m GenX (born in 1979) and despite us having some very different ideas about things, I was able to explain to him the situation today. At first he was a little hesitant, but as I explained it to him he understood and thinks “kids today” (remember, he’s 70, so “kid” doesn’t literally mean someone who’s a child) are in a really shitty position.

The more Boomers that understand, the better things can potentially be for all of us, but that won’t happen if we approach them in an adversarial manner.
