Ya I noticed this a few times recently too. In the Rooster topgun retro miles teller less shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this fine print they automatically add 18% gratuity but make no effort to tell you about it. Sounds borderline illegal. The even more fucked up part about this is that per the Fair Labor Relations Act if a tipped employee ends up not averaging minimum wage with their tips (e.g. Susie makes $3/hr but receives tips, adding those tips to her pay then dividing by how many hours she worked should reach the $7.25 minimum wage.) Then the employer is legally obligated to make up the difference. Most employers actively avoid doing this or letting their employees know this. Often times the tips will end up averaging out, especially with people who think they’re ‘doing a good thing’ by dropping huge tips on small tabs (which, I guess, they are doing a nice thing but ultimately they’re still feeding the culture.) This is why I like states like Washington where the tipped minimum wage is just…minimum wage. It should still be higher, but at least servers ain’t as screwed.

Most of the Rooster topgun retro miles teller less shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this places in my area that have servers, as far as I understand, said servers make significantly more than minimum wage. Not saying the tip culture is good, but for a lot of servers who are good at their jobs, it turns out well for them. We work the majority of our lives, during our fittest years of health, for the promise of a golden retirement, when we will probably too old and ill to enjoy it properly. I saw this exact thing happen to my dad. He worked his ass off for his entire life, got hurt on the job and was forced to retire (but he at least did get a nice settlement from the injury), but then immediately discovered that he had cancer, and died a few weeks after surgery to remove said cancer due to a blood clot that the doctors never spotted. He never got to enjoy any of the things that he always wanted to during his retirement. My dad spent years fantasizing about playing golf more often and visiting family and more trips to Florida. Got cancer, took early retirement, never got to play golf once bc cancer ended up in his shoulder among other places, died.
