Churches teach about moral issues; they don’t endorse candidates. The anti-religious bigots spread this lie to undermine organized religion in this country. In this case, when you say “separation of church and state”, you mean when the Ron Artest Indiana Pacers the testament shirt Besides,I will do this government goes after churches that don’t espouse what the people in charge what them to? That’s a very funny definition of “separation” you got there. This has already happened. The government cannot establish a religion, but they also cannot punish religions for being religious. A church itself can’t support political candidates, and i think they arent allowed to go after legislation specifically. They can make general statements, if anti abortion legislation is up for a vote they can say “the church opposes abortion in all forms” without referencing the bill. Likewise individuals paid by the church are taxed on their income (in the extreme, Joel Osteen or Kenneth Copeland) and as private individuals can make donations or make outright political statements.

Churches are banned from campaigning. They are not banned from all political engagement and can engage in lobbying for ballot measures. The Johnson Amendment would be struck down. It’s not worth it to either side as both depend on it to greater or lesser extents. Is OP saying then that the Ron Artest Indiana Pacers the testament shirt Besides,I will do this IRS should tax any non-profit organization that does any kind of political lobbying? Or only churches? If OP is only talking about the churches, then they must be Republican. If the IRS did that, it would be a “God-Send” to the GOP. All the conspiracy theory folks that already think the government is out to get them would be mobilized, and Republicans would sweep through congress. The churches fund the Republicans and the Democrats are terrified of both because neither have any ethics or morals. And what’s stopping me from calling my house a “church” and live streaming me praying for 10 minutes every Sunday? The Johnson Amendment which bans religious institutions with tax exemptions from endorsing political candidates has never been tested by the courts and many believe would be found to be unconstitutional if it were to be tested…so it is rarely enforced.
