It used to be that you worked at a company for 20 yrs and retired, but the Rollie Fingers Oakland Sketch American MLB Baseball Player T-Shirt also I will do this Boomer generation has made that virtually impossible by allowing legislation that increased the cost of healthcare, let companies raid pension funds, crush unions, gave huge tax breaks to the rich on the backs of the working poor and middle class, and created a corrupt trading market that victimized individual investors by allowing big investment firms to take your money by employing high frequency trading algorithms. They allowed State universities to raise tuition sky high so there’s no possibility if you being able to pay back your student loans in a reasonable amount of time – thus causing you to not be able to invest early enough to save for retirement and also allowed predatory lenders to give you those loans at horrendous interest rates. They also allowed deregulation in the housing market that caused home prices to be so high that you’ll have to put down a grand majority of whatever you’ve saved for a downpayment, only to be crushed by high monthly mortgage prices. Then they allowed social security funds to be raided and the age of retirement to qualify for funds to be increased. We Gen X’ers now have to work 40+ years to retire and open up new positions for you, and in the meantime you’re waiting in the wings willing to take a job from whomever will hire you for paltry pay. People can rarely expect to pursue their true passions as a career anymore, and instead have to chase whatever makes them a wage high enough to afford a reasonable living. And to top it all off, there’s absolutely no regulations that limit the amount of labor and that automation or AI is allowed to steal from the working class.

Your generation can now vote and correct the wrongs of the past by electing honest legislators who have your best interest in mind rather than these single issue politicians who want to distract you from the real problems. Go out there and make it happen. Codify things in law so that the system isn’t allowed to take advantage of you and your children without severe repercussions. That was me. I got lucky and worked hard too so I was offered a contract right out of grad school. It was great until 2 years later when my contract expired. I now had no idea how to network or build a resume. It’s been a harsh road back to a suitable level of employment. Anyway, you’re right
