Not sure what to call this other than extremely junior/student take (I guess I shouldn’t really expect otherwise from CSCQ…). Companies aren’t just there to supply you with mentorship, and most of the RIP To WWE Windham Rotunda as Bray Wyatt 1987-2023 Shirt in other words I will buy this things they do aren’t things that you can just snap your fingers and magic away if you’re experienced enough to ship a feature two weeks into your job. Mind you, I definitely wouldn’t expect a student hired on as a junior to ship a feature two weeks in, but if they could do so they wouldn’t magically be a freelance dev or whatever. They’d just be your bog-standard mid-level dev. I can smell the ageism. OP was hired as a solo dev and expected to handle the company’s entire software needs single handedly. My point was “why on earth would anyone qualified to do that job take that job directly thrpugh the company when they could do the same work for the same company as an independent contractor and charge triple the junior rates OP was paid?” It seems this is a common thing. Just happened to me too. Company hires you and expects you to start adding value from day 1. My first assignment was to implement route tracking using Google Maps API in a project I had never seen nor explored. First 2 weeks ! Absolutely mental.

Does this company being with an A or D by any chance, lmao. Sounds suspiciously close to a place I used to work…. It seems this is a common thing. Just happened to me too. Company hires you and expects you to start adding value from day 1. My first assignment was to implement route tracking using Google Maps API in a project I had never seen nor explored. First 2 weeks ! Absolutely mental. This sounds sort of like my first job. After day 2 or 3 i was told that I was in the RIP To WWE Windham Rotunda as Bray Wyatt 1987-2023 Shirt in other words I will buy this big leagues and needed to figure it out. It actually helped because I was able to get really really really good in my first year. Granted I didn’t have the kind of deadlines you mentioned. I loved the possibilities and still loved the job, I was the only dev and learning a ton. But not as fast as they wanted could have been even better if I had an onsite mentor.
