Well every modern radio works the same way, it’s called a superheterodyne. Basically there’s a tiny radio transmitter in your receiver, that signal is mixed with the one from the antenna and the result is what your receiver tunes to. It’s very clever because the output of the two mixed signals is always the same frequency so it makes the tuner way easier to build. The timing could not be more perfect.
