It depends. A minimum wage job should not be able to support a family a four because that’s not what it is designed to do. Well, if someone doesn’t provide their company with enough value to justify a living wage, then they have no job. Another argument is low paying, low skill jobs subsidize public assistance by not making people 100% reliant on it. Isn’t it likely the RICCIARDO SHOEY Classic T-Shirt in other words I will buy this case that a full time worker forced to take food stamps has probably made poor financial decisions and is up to their eyes in debt? I’m not from the US so maybe I don’t appreciate how bad it is, but surely a full time job, if you have no credit cards/loans, should be enough to pay for the essentials no? The average American worker is living paycheck to paycheck and is one medical bill away from disaster. Or a car repair. Or just about anything. And that’s assuming they didn’t end up stuck with a student loan or the like just to get into a job market. Or that employers are even willing to have people full time (so they can pay less benefits out). Not paying a living wage is an illness that permeates US companies in this decade, a disease that started back in the 1980s and has sapped the worker base since. have you seen the price of rent here , a 1 bedroom apartment on the low side is $1400, then utilities, & car with or without a payment has to be added in, then food Skilless? Most of these people worked while others stayed home. With out these workers you couldn’t buy food or socks. Every job is important to the running of our society.

When jobs pay less than it takes you get by, how can you expect someone to have the RICCIARDO SHOEY Classic T-Shirt in other words I will buy this resources to better themselves to get those jobs? Maybe they need to make themselves more valuable. Just because you’re working 40 hours, doesn’t mean you’re providing value to society. Every fast food worker, grocery store worker, etc. on the planet are essential for our society to function. Seems like they’re providing far more value to society than they’re being compensated for. Honest question, just genuinely curious, but I have to ask because a lot of these posts are hyper generalized and dont seem to take into account personal responsibility at all. What if the employee is working 40 hours a week at $15 an hour. Now, that should afford a person a place to stay, food, and other necessities. But let’s say that same person keeps having children, or they have poor money management skills (buying unnecessary material goods) and are living far outside their means? Is it a companies responsibility to increase your wage based on poor life decisions? These should be questions that are being asked as well. Fair wages, which I completely agree with, should not become enablers of misguided choices. More money will not fix that problem. Rent is the main cost for most people and it is unaffordable in every state. It doesn’t necessarily matter how many children someone has. Except that have less expenses. But we should not shame people for having kids. People who make $15/hr 40 hrs/wk is around $2100 a month, 30% ( what housing budget should be) is $630. The cheapest rent in my area is about $800 maybe $700 if you were lucky. The town next to me charges over $1000/mo for rent. So you are already over budget and that doesn’t include bills, necessities, car payment, gas, debt payments such as student loans and other things people typically budget for like car insurance or health care. So your likely at your max already…. and this didn’t even include children. So with even one child you are buying diapers, more food, using more utilities, buying toys, having a birthday each year, and paying for childcare (which is extremely expensive and has to be bc daycare centers pay next to nothing and still typically have to rely on fundraising to make ends meet.) The cost of living is just not affordable and we need to look at that before we demonize people and their children for simply existing
