Sometimes I think that cops have no clue how shitty their behaviour is and that they are the Retro Vintage Summer Vacay Mode T-Shirt and I will buy this ones who bring the citizens they swore to protect in danger. The ‘traffic stops isn’t the point. The man is trying to get people used to constant surveillance. This destroys people’s EXPECTATION of privacy, which is where the right is derived from. If you have no privacy, then no warrant nor probable cause is needed. Most people use social media and the internet in general so its not like they don’t have your identity already for sale and sold multiple times… not to mention the joys of cell phones… taxes… membership… points cards… My local Sheriff’s dept is just got major funding for body cams after years of fighting it. This makes sense. How many times have they taken body cam footage and ran through face scans and data bases of profiled individuals.

over here in europe(the Retro Vintage Summer Vacay Mode T-Shirt and I will buy this netherlands) you just get facially scanned by numberplate scanning parking police cars. Much better when they hide it or choose not to inform the average public that this is happening while we think we dont live in a society like that. They already do (or at least try to) automatically. It’s my understanding that it happens at the same time they scan your license plate. You don’t need to be stopped either. It just happens as you drive by. The only reasoning I can see for this is to combat fake IDs, but with the latest ID-based security measures, how often do regular cops run into a convincing fake? At some point police started taking mug-shots for the same purpose, then with the advent of the DMV, we had additional photos for police to use to identify possible suspects. Photographs are also an imperfect way of identifying someone, but they can help narrow results. Why wouldn’t this be a similar concept? Privacy is one thing, I would certainly advocate parameters in which this can be used, but I don’t know that I oppose the use of it entirely. Despite reddit’s overwhelming hatred for law enforcement In a not-remotely nuanced way, when a serious crime is committed people often complain that police never do anything or never respond quickly enough. Part of that is that there’s only so many avenues they can take before technology and modern problems out run an industry in vital need of reform and modernization both in tactics and tools. That includes broader reforms demanded by citizens over oversight and accountability, but including more tools like this that hopefully would reduce the impact of human error where applied correctly, could also be positive, we just need to implement them carefully.
