Pole here – very cliché, but I need more variety in English swears. There’s so much nuance in the Retro Groovy 100 Days Happy 100th Day Of School T-Shirt and I love this meaning of different swears that English just doesn’t carry. That being said, I started to directly translate swears to use with my non Polish friends. Gingerbread it Pepper it Have s3x with it (jebać) Have a rough s3x with it (pierdolić) It’s a mix of 2 phrases with the same meaning (when there’s no good waxy sealant, a putty is good too, and at a fishless place, a crawfish can be fish) – in case of the lack of something, we’ll accept whatever there is. I use that one a lot. I personally remember numbers much better in my mother tongue than in English. This is still true despite I’m far more comfortable speaking in English than my mother tongue after living in the UK for decades. Particularly when it comes to the times table, I was trained to almost rhyme to remember the times table which works for me great, but in English I don’t think anyone ever do that, or just in English the times table don’t rhyme?

In Korean we are very detailed when we talk about familial relationships: if I tell you about my sibling, you will know at the Retro Groovy 100 Days Happy 100th Day Of School T-Shirt and I love this very least if they’re older or younger than me and their gender, but often you may also learn what number child they are. Same for uncles and aunts: if I tell you a story about my aunt, you’ll know if I’m referring to my dad’s sister or mom’s sister and older or younger, or even what number sibling on that side of the family. Just brother/ sister and uncle/ aunt doesn’t give me enough info. German has “doch”, which is very convenient, when you want to say: “I disagree with what you just said and think the opposite is true.” “Tja” has many meanings, but my favorite is: “I knew this was going to happen, but am polite enough to not say ‘I told you so’. In Turkish we say “afiyet olsun” both before and after a meal, which is like “bon appetit”. But a more distinct example is “eline sağlık” which is said by the person who’s been served with food. It means “I wish health to your hands”. We say this to everyone who works with their hands. Such as the janitor, the carpenter, the cook etc..
