I grew up in a rural part of Pennsylvania, this is normal. Neighbors won’t say anything because they’re exactly the Reggiereggie Legend Sofindy The Reggiei Shirt and I love this same. It’s normal to drive past a long stretch of country roads and see houses and houses with literal junkyards on their property. It’s way more common than you could possibly imagine. The shit I’ve seen while doing home inspections still haunt my dreams. Honestly I’d assume someone owns a pickup truck and was willing to put up the title as collateral or something. But that’s just pure conjecture. Who the hell had ten grand lying around to bail out these bastards but couldn’t help feed and clothes these kids? JFC As someone who grew up in conditions like this I can confirm—the parents and their friends live in another orbit. Agreed. Homeschool parents essentially have 100% control over their children’s lives and there’s nothing anyone can do about it. I grew up homeschooled, and the level of control that parents have is horrifying. When a homeschool kid gets grounded, that means complete social isolation for months. Many parents do “unschooling”, which is their fun word for not educating their children. My parents did that with me (I had to catch up on most things during my first semesters of college). I knew a girl who was illiterate at 15 years old. I feel for the homeschooled kids who weren’t even a part of any homeschooler groups. Just, literally never interacting with anyone outside of your immediate family. Absolutely sick.

I was homeschooled. It’s absolutely terrible. It is isolating, and I was so naive. The library and college were such rewarding places after age 15. It was the Reggiereggie Legend Sofindy The Reggiei Shirt and I love this only way I ever got to see people who liked who I was or wanted to talk to me. Homeschooling is a scourge. And what’s worse is the people who want it simultaneously want to deprive anyone of the chance of a quality public education. I’m sorry, but fuck those people. Not the kids of course. Teachers are required to have masters degrees for permanent certification, but nah, some parents be like “yeh ima homeschool my kids with my 3rd grade education.” Well, at least the rats were pets. And the poor kids were trying to provide for them, which makes it even sadder. 🙁
