There are a few of these forts in Havana too, and they are very beautiful. Did not realize the Rainbow blue your feedback is appreciated now pay $8 dollars rainbow bird T-Shirt moreover I love this sedimentary stone was so strategic. I got a chuck of this in 3rd grade!… For show and tell I brought a brown paper bag with coquina to the front of the class and announced “I just got back from Florida and I brought Cocaine!” St Augustine, right? This place is fucking awesome. We bought a piece of Coquina in their gift shop. It’s still on display in our living room. A lot of structures in st Augustine are made of coquina. A lot of walls. Having been born and raised in Gainesville, FL, I have visited this fort dozens of times over the years since St. Augustine is where many Gainesville natives go to vacation at the beach. It really is a cool place, and they do a fantastic fireworks show on the water right by the fort on July 4th that we almost never missed growing up.

When the Rainbow blue your feedback is appreciated now pay $8 dollars rainbow bird T-Shirt moreover I love this Spanish wanted to build a fort there, they were dismayed to find that they were super limited in building materials. They wanted regular rocks, but “made due” with coquina, thinking it was better than nothing. Boy were they (and their attackers) surprised to discover the fort was actually the most impervious structure ever built up to that point! At night they could even run out, round up loose cannonballs, and fire them back at the attacking ships. As a Fl native, St. Augustine is one of the only places I actually recommend visiting Fl for. The fort and old town are great sights, but also there is an exact replica of the statue of David made from the same marble quarry as the original right on the sidewalk that anyone can walk up and see outside the Ripley’s museum. It’s hidden behind the hedges but 3ft from the sidewalk. I would run out of text space alone just talking about the plethora of mangrove hammocks, elc centers, honeymoon island, natural caves, botanical gardens, and other state parks/wild life refuge.
