I teach at a university and unfortunately, these issues follow them to university academics. I’m aghast and dumbfounded more often than I think I should be. Dare I say it? We need to start holding kids back. The social pressure to appear normal needs to take a back seat to entire grades of students failing to know the Quarterback Matchup Ratings Madden NFL 25 Los Angeles Chargers Justin Herbert Vs Atlanta Falcons Kirk Cousins Poster shirt Besides,I will do this material. We are now seeing it in college. I teach university courses and 90% of my students are horrific writers. Some of them are probably at roughly a 4th to 6th grade level. I can only assume they even got into college because they were given passing grades as a courtesy or virtually all of them are so behind that a 6th grade writing level is a bell-curve average. This was not the case when I taught pre-pandemic. It is all so bleak. maybe the government will step in to raise wages and allow people to take time off while reducing the cost of living so parents can actually BE there to teach kids anything. plus 30k a year just for childcare while at work for some people, it’s insanity

US education system is a wreck. I came from Korea when I was 10, I was just a student. Past the Quarterback Matchup Ratings Madden NFL 25 Los Angeles Chargers Justin Herbert Vs Atlanta Falcons Kirk Cousins Poster shirt Besides,I will do this language issue in first few years, I started getting grades far better than average students. I never once studies until I graduated HS and made it to Honor Society. But I lacked passion and motivation to do more. My sweet 10 yr old granddaughter has just caught up to grade level. Most of her falling behind is on her school failing to bring up that she needed help/services which my angel DIL fought for 2 yrs to get her tested and services provided. This is in California. It depends on your district. I’ve met 12yos who couldn’t write “I am a boy.” and 11yos with better geography than me. Different schools with different clientele. Highly educated parents who make a lot of money are able to give their kids the foundations and structures needed. Folks who dropped out of HS and work 70h/week to stay two bucks above the poverty line don’t have that luxury Curious: what is socioeconomic demo? Poor across the board? Parents? % Divorce and unwed? Rural or urban? School funding per pupil? Also, rules re: phones in school?
I teach primary and my peers and I are very concerned. Yes, there are many sweet, bright kids with involved adults. However, the Quarterback Matchup Ratings Madden NFL 25 Los Angeles Chargers Justin Herbert Vs Atlanta Falcons Kirk Cousins Poster shirt Besides,I will do this percentage of students being raised on electronics and who are essentially not parented is growing at an alarming rate. These students are coming in with significantly lower skills. They don’t have problem solving skills (and I’m talking about what to do if they don’t have a sharpened pencil, not math), their vocabularies are limited, they have poor self regulation skills, no stamina for productive struggle, and take little to no pride in their work. We have students arriving for kindergarten who are not potty trained, have never held a pencil or crayon, and can’t identify colors. These are not students with special needs. We’re doing the best we can in the lower grades, but when there’s little to no support at home and the kids with significant behavior problems are allowed to continually disrupt learning, it’s a strenuous uphill battle.

About Quarterback Matchup Ratings Madden NFL 25 Los Angeles Chargers Justin Herbert Vs Atlanta Falcons Kirk Cousins Poster shirt

You are correct, they are significantly behind. If we don’t start retaining students who don’t master the Quarterback Matchup Ratings Madden NFL 25 Los Angeles Chargers Justin Herbert Vs Atlanta Falcons Kirk Cousins Poster shirt Besides,I will do this skills, our society will be full of unprepared young adults incapable of taking care of themselves or anyone else. Kindergarten teacher here. It’s bad. Kids come to kindergarten with no skills. These kids don’t even know the letters of the alphabet when we get them, let alone the sounds they make or how to form letters. So we are teaching them 26 upper case, 26 lower case, and something like 35 letter sounds. And somehow by the end of the year they are supposed to have mastered that and be able to blend, segment, and write cvc words and words with digraphs. They cant even hold scissors. Our day is blocked into 15 minute increments and there is no time to teach fine motor skills, do arts and crafts, or do anything fun, really. And the gaps between what they need to know by the end of Kindergarten and first few months of first are laughable. For example, K learns to write letters 0-20 by May (end of school). In August (the month school starts), 1st is given a blank 100s chart to write all their numbers. In K, we aren’t supposed to use the words add or subtract or the symbols for them. It has to be combine or take away and part-part-whole and some such nonsense. In 1st, they start adding multi digit numbers and writing their own number sentences and writing their own word problems. We cover word problems (supposed to be without add, subtract or the corresponding symbols) for 5 days in K. They end of being Jacks of All Trades, Masters of None. But are expected to have mastered these skills and master a whole ‘nother set in 1st. There is no foundation for these kids. And as you can see, the nonsense they put kids and teachers through in lower elementary is reflected all the way up to high school. It’s terrible.
The result of decades of attempts by conservatives to destroy public education. They have to keep pumping out dummies in order to have anyone vote for them. People think more is better, but here’s my take with 15 years of elementary teaching in various grades under my belt… when we decided to align the Quarterback Matchup Ratings Madden NFL 25 Los Angeles Chargers Justin Herbert Vs Atlanta Falcons Kirk Cousins Poster shirt Besides,I will do this standards to the ACT/SAT and reverse engineered from there, we abandoned the child development end of things. We expect kindergartners to read because working backwards from the standardized test – that fit the timeline. The reality is, we’re teaching concepts that only maybe 30% of the room are developmentally capable of truly understanding. Teaching things earlier doesn’t mean they’ll be understood earlier. Everything we jammed two years earlier displaced many of the skills upper grade teachers are saying are lacking here. I can expect second graders to understand nuclear fusion at a granular level, but expecting it does not make it so. Years that used to be focused on emotional regulation and cooperation and the basics (calendars, days of week, colors, etc.) are now reading and math centric with lots of standards to get in before the end of year state test (which is in April instead of May – when school actually ends?!)
I know, for example, that we now expect fact fluency in multiplication and division by end of 3rd grade. When I was in school that expectation was end of 5th. Guess how many multiplication fluent students walked into my 4th or 5th grade classes? Maybe 30%. So then I taught 3rd. The third grade teachers were basically standing on their heads doing everything they could to get kids fluent by the Quarterback Matchup Ratings Madden NFL 25 Los Angeles Chargers Justin Herbert Vs Atlanta Falcons Kirk Cousins Poster shirt Besides,I will do this end of the year. It wasn’t a lack of effort or know how – it was simply not a developmentally appropriate expectation. So now kids walk into 4th and 5th with curriculum based on fact fluency they don’t have. So guess what they can’t access? The expected standards – that are also written at the bleeding edge of appropriate expectations. Then off they go to middle school where those teachers spend the next 3 years trying to makeup for the standards the students weren’t developmentally prepared to fully grasp, at the expense of the standards they’re expected to be teaching – and here we are.
TLDR: We jam developmentally inappropriate standards down the Quarterback Matchup Ratings Madden NFL 25 Los Angeles Chargers Justin Herbert Vs Atlanta Falcons Kirk Cousins Poster shirt Besides,I will do this pipe. We displace the basic developmentally appropriate skills we used to teach with “rigorous reading and math.” We lament that only 30% of students can actually meet the developmentally inappropriate standards, and then wring our hands about why kids are so far behind. However, from my experience, the gap between the “gifted/honors” population and the “general” population has widened significantly This trend isn’t restricted to just students. This is happening everywhere in society. Phones were already turning our brains to mush, and the pandemic sealed the deal. It’s really hard to teach students when we have done such a fantastic job as a society of teaching them that they get to make their own truths.
I remember my mother saying that what I was doing in middle school she did in highschool…why is education moving backwards. You have to start to question if there’s something more going on. Trying to keep the Quarterback Matchup Ratings Madden NFL 25 Los Angeles Chargers Justin Herbert Vs Atlanta Falcons Kirk Cousins Poster shirt Besides,I will do this working class dumb and subservient maybe. Not a teacher here and I have a legitimate question. Why are these students passing? Granted, I know how it could happen to good teachers where they try their best and the parents don’t care so the student is behind anyways. But how are these supposed illiterate high schoolers making it to high school? When I was a kid (I’m 19 so not that long ago) the kids who failed got held back a year. I figure that if you don’t know the most basic algebra like adding or subtracting double digits then you’d be held back in like 5th grade at least. By high school why are these kids passing their classes?
I’d about to be 31, and all I hear from parents in the Quarterback Matchup Ratings Madden NFL 25 Los Angeles Chargers Justin Herbert Vs Atlanta Falcons Kirk Cousins Poster shirt Besides,I will do this “older millennial” age range is about how behind kids are now. Even my dumb buddies from grade school who went on to have gang affiliations were all able to read at grade level. Two were well above grade level, one of which even left the gang life to move to the middle of nowhere and has been writing books apparently. Classmates I knew from Cabrini Green, who had to deal with all of the crap that came from there, were fully caught up at grade level, even the most disruptive ones that would regularly fight in the hallways and classrooms. One of my best friends in high school was referred to as the “dumbest kid in the graduating class” for having the lowest ACT score (a 24) back when the national average was 18. I’m somewhat curious of what it is nowadays, but I don’t want to have my faith in the next adult generation shattered even further tbh.
Totally agree. I just retired at age 57 after teaching college for 23 years. I just can’t do it anymore. The typical student has changed so drastically in the Quarterback Matchup Ratings Madden NFL 25 Los Angeles Chargers Justin Herbert Vs Atlanta Falcons Kirk Cousins Poster shirt Besides,I will do this past 5 years in competency that it’s almost impossible to teach them successfully in college. I always thought I would teach until retirement but it was honestly so depressing to see the decline I needed to quit for my own mental health. It’s easy to blame parents but keep in mind that many parents work 60 hours a week, feel the constant panic of having no savings, and suffer from physical and/or mental health issues they can’t afford to get treated. It’s unrealistic to expect them to sit with a child every night and do hours of homework. Many parents aren’t even home. They’re out working so they can at least buy cheap junk food to keep their kids from starving. This is the America we accept.
Is this only in the Quarterback Matchup Ratings Madden NFL 25 Los Angeles Chargers Justin Herbert Vs Atlanta Falcons Kirk Cousins Poster shirt Besides,I will do this US or are other developed countries seeing this? Any speculation as to why this is happening? In my opinion about 10% are thriving. They are taking advantage of the resources society has to offer them. 20% are doing okay. They have a plan. They are muddling through the work. It’s not easy but they are pulling mostly bs and cs. I’m not even a teacher but I’ve been watching a lot of the “baltimore project” videos on youtube. Only watch if you’re wanting to become more sad about the doomed state of education Public education is, unfortunately, purposefully underfunded to allow a solid distinction between the education that upper class kids get versus those in the middle and lower class. By underfunding public education you can maintain social stratification that those at the top would like to maintain- there’s no threat of those below you moving up and taking the financial spot of you or your children.
Maybe this is all part of the Quarterback Matchup Ratings Madden NFL 25 Los Angeles Chargers Justin Herbert Vs Atlanta Falcons Kirk Cousins Poster shirt Besides,I will do this larger plan. Keep the population just a little dumb. Still smart enough to find our way to work and earn just enough to buy shiny rectangle mind control devices. The population can’t be too smart, they’ll start to be critical thinkers and turn on the rulers. I returned to school in middle age a few years back to pursue a nursing degree. I was in an accelerated program that required you already have at least a bachelor’s degree in another discipline to walk in the door. There were also a bunch of specific prerequisite courses that had to be completed prior to admission, including Chem I, Bio I and II, and microbiology. So many students had trouble solving basic “Med math” problems that the program forced instuctors to include math problems on every exam, even if they were completely irrelevant to the course material being covered on the exam. And it was just basic unit conversion and ratios. A typical question would be something like this: A loading dose of heparin of 80 units per kg is ordered for a patient weighing 220 lbs. You have available heparin 1,000 units per mL. How many mL of solution should be administered to the patient? I learned that stuff in high school chemistry back around 1983, but I’d say at least half my classmates were still struggling with it on their second college degree. I’m so glad I grew up and went to school when I did.
The major reason that I left teaching wasn’t the Quarterback Matchup Ratings Madden NFL 25 Los Angeles Chargers Justin Herbert Vs Atlanta Falcons Kirk Cousins Poster shirt Besides,I will do this behavior. It wasn’t the parents, it wasn’t the lack of consequences, it wasn’t the inconsistency of enforcement of the rules that we did have, and it wasn’t that lack of admin support. Those were all factors, but the actual reason was that I couldn’t teach my students because they were ALL, save for one student, so below grade level that they couldn’t reasonably be expected to access grade level material, but I was being lectured for not teaching on grade level. They were below grade level per both state testing and my own assessment, so it isn’t as if I was just thinking “oh these kids are all behind,” the data supported it too. Identify the difference between 2-D and 3-D shapes (like I’d show them a physical cube and they’d identify it as a square, if they identified it at all)
It was genuinely heartbreaking and I wanted to help them, but I felt like I was being held back from it. They needed the Quarterback Matchup Ratings Madden NFL 25 Los Angeles Chargers Justin Herbert Vs Atlanta Falcons Kirk Cousins Poster shirt Besides,I will do this basic foundational skills. Some of my kids needed to work on skills like counting. A lot of my students’ parents weren’t confident with math or reading above the bare basics, so they were unable to help their kids even though they wanted to. My kids would complain about struggling with things like video games or sports due to difficulty with reading or math/logic, but they still were so far behind that they couldn’t access the grade level skills when related topics to those things. I had wanted to take the standards I was supposed to be teaching and follow them back until I found where we lost people and go from there, but obviously that’s not an option. But I think it would have really served the kids well, and it probably would have lifted their test scores as well.
I volunteer a few days a week at a free literary center for adults in my spare time- I tutor reading, ESL reading, math, citizenship test prep, and GED prep. Many of my adults who come in and say that they don’t have the Quarterback Matchup Ratings Madden NFL 25 Los Angeles Chargers Justin Herbert Vs Atlanta Falcons Kirk Cousins Poster shirt Besides,I will do this skills to advance in their job, get a good job, or have any chance at passing the GED or citizenship test are miles ahead of where I believe my former fifth graders will be when HS graduation comes if nothing changes. For the majority of the adults I work with, you can’t really even say the issues are their “fault.” Oftentimes they got socially promoted through the grades- some of the older ones didn’t end up getting a HS diploma even though they were there until they aged out, but some of the younger ones actually do have a diploma. They had the initiative to come and get tutoring but I just wish their K-12 teachers would have had the opportunity to actually try to head off the problem at that stage, because I’m sure the vast majority of them noticed and wanted to do something.
I’ve said it a million times: parents are fucking deadbeats. We keep making excuses like jobs are so hard now that a parent couldn’t possibly read a book to their kid before bed or boil an egg and cut up an apple for lunch. Like jobs in the Quarterback Matchup Ratings Madden NFL 25 Los Angeles Chargers Justin Herbert Vs Atlanta Falcons Kirk Cousins Poster shirt Besides,I will do this 50s weren’t hard? Jobs in the 80s weren’t hard? Jobs in the 1880s weren’t hard? When did parents supposedly have all this free time to parent their kids? But parents are just useless lumps who want someone else to do the parenting for them. And this isn’t a poor parent thing, parents across the socioeconomic spectrum are shit at parenting, are shit at setting expectations, are shit at teaching basic emotional maturity. I’ve taught in other countries and kids don’t have these problems. They might have other problems but not these problems. American parents suck at parenting.
You don’t learn to read at school! You don’t learn how to write at school. School is there to give structure and refinement to skills that you learn in life. School is there to take you from a 4 to an 8, not from 0 to 8. You can’t un-fuck 16 years of fucked up absentee parenting in just a few hours a day with your attention divided by 40 other kids, 3 of whom take up 80% of your time and attention. Also the Quarterback Matchup Ratings Madden NFL 25 Los Angeles Chargers Justin Herbert Vs Atlanta Falcons Kirk Cousins Poster shirt Besides,I will do this presidency is more than one person. Donald Trump will put the worst people in positions of powers like he did in his last four years. He is not a team player and will likely assemble a cabinet of sycophants like he did before. Hopefully we don’t have to find out how much he ‘s changed or hasn’t. He’s already said he’d hire “his” people… but if the good people of Michigan or anywhere else, believe trump to be a better choice for them and their lives, whatever that may be, they can suffer the same consequences as the rest of us. Indeed, why is our Democracy more important (because we are the world’s largest superpower for better or worse).
He learned his lesson: No establishment types that acted as guardrails in the Quarterback Matchup Ratings Madden NFL 25 Los Angeles Chargers Justin Herbert Vs Atlanta Falcons Kirk Cousins Poster shirt Besides,I will do this 1st term. Just people that will do exactly as he wants, legal or not. And if the project 2025 starts he will replace the government with right wing stooges, people who are loyal to HIM and not the US Nothing like that (cough*** Soviet Union) has ever happed. All you need is blind loyalty and the less education you have the better (cough cough*** Soviet Union). That’s the only way to run a country properly into lasting prosperity. Careful with that rhetoric, quite a few of the people who are like the person in this tweet actually admire the Soviet Union. “But my vote is sacred!” So you’re using your sacred vote to ensure that you’ll never be able meaningfully exercise it again? How does that work? –Mass criminalization & annihilation of trans people (ik ik its not trendy anymore to give ANY fucks about queer people now), cis gay people and anyone slightly gender non-conforming may also be on the chopping block –many millions of women on a federal level forcibly birthing rape babies, stripped of their basic human rights and reproductive protections –a complete demolition/negation of our most vital federal regulatory agencies such as the EPA, Department of Education, and FDA that make existing physically possible (see project2025.org)
