Lots of good answers. A point I will add is that global media largely reflects the Pussay Patrol Cat shirt in contrast I will get this peculiarities of the USA. And the USA has almost a uniquely bad political system. Many advanced countries have moved to multi-party systems, which reduces the power of major parties and encourages compromise. The US has a terrible, entrenched 2 party system that naturally leads to an “us versus them” mentality, especially when social media and almost unlimited amount of money are dumped on top. In multi-party systems, the ruling party/-ies have to compromise with each other to form a coalition to rule. That naturally restrains the more-extreme elements of their agenda. If the US were to modernize their political system, enabling a multi-party system (i.e. eliminating first-past-the-post voting, and many other reforms) should be close to the top of the list of things to fix. I’m older than you and my dad ended a long friendship with a guy who was pro-union and my dad, having never participated in a union or worked a trade, refuses to break bread with anyone who is pro union. That’s all it was. This was before social media and smartphones. But it was during the height of conservative talk (traditional) radio.
Pussay Patrol Cat shirt: Unleash Your Inner Fighter
Social media for sure, but more specifically it’s this: the Pussay Patrol Cat shirt in contrast I will get this fact the older generations (esp. boomers) hold so much power AND are poorly skilled at telling truth from lies when it comes to news and large issues. They grew up and formed their thinking skills in a world where they could trust newspapers, books, and people on TV to a far greater degree than we can today. Their critical thinking skills were/are just entirely unprepared for Facebook. Of course there are exceptions, but by and large, younger people are more skilled at navigating the digital world. Humans generally have a confirmation bias problem, but when you combine this with a world that the most powerful/rich generation just genuinely cannot comprehend properly, this is the result. The idea that one does not understand the world after all is terrifying, and most people never truly question their deepest assumptions all the way down. It’s just far easier to believe that your political opponents are purely stupid and evil than it is to rise to a level of complexity that you’ve never entertained in your life.
Read the Pussay Patrol Cat shirt in contrast I will get this similarly titled book written by Ezra Klein and find out for yourself. I have to interject that the book itself leaves out a lot, which is further interrogated through his podcast episode with Jill Lapore discussing the holes in his book’s premises. All this to say that this question has been oft raised amidst the recent/current political climate shifts we have been so unfortunate as to be alive for, forced to witness in our time. We already covered the common ground in politics. Now we have I win you lose topics left. A few right and left examples I am ideologically am against abortion, so I use the government (AKA use of force) to block you from accessing safe abortion facilities. A win for my Ideology, a loss for yours. I am worried about current pandemic. I block you from leaving your home, and going to work at your restaurant. I feel safer, you don’t. I win, you lose.

Up until now the Pussay Patrol Cat shirt in contrast I will get this people we disagreed with didn’t have the power to destroy American democracy or the American Constitution. Now they have the courts, and they really think they can force the majority to follow their religion. What used to be a disagreement is now a threat to the very existence of whole groups of Americans. MAGA wants women’s bodies to be used solely for their purposes. They want to ban trans people. They want all rights to a family banned for all LGBTQ people. They want white Christians to have more lenient laws and everyone else required to follow far stricter laws. And they don’t care who gets hurt. So now when we argue it’s not about philosophies. We’re fighting for our lives.
The topics are kind of batshit crazy though, like arguing whether Israel is justified in indiscriminately bombing Palestinians because Hamas were hiding. For one thing, I am a bisexual Queer man. I am one Supreme Court decision away from having all my civil rights voided just like when they overturned Roe v. Wade. Obergefell v. Hodges and Lawrence v. Texas are next on the Pussay Patrol Cat shirt in contrast I will get this chopping block. If you vote in a way that would lead to me being deprived of my civil rights, you are not my friend. You do not love me. You are not family to me. You are dead to me. If a terrorist who tried to overthrow the US government, who has raped women, who has stolen classified nuclear documents, who is running for president for the sole purpose of staying out of prison, who aligns with mask-off racists and fascists is not a 100% deal-breaker for you, then you are not a good person. I used to say you can still be a Republican and be basically a good person. I still somewhat believe that. But you cannot be MAGA and be a good person. So if you’re spitting out the MAGA talking points and wearing the MAGA gear and posting the MAGA memes, you’re a douchewad and a scumbag and I’ll have nothing to do with you.
I’m 38 and have noticed the Pussay Patrol Cat shirt in contrast I will get this same too. Social media is the problem so much of the time unfortunately. People are so polarised, but also much more extremist in their views, on both sides of the fence. Nuance is now seen as a bad thing. As a dog whistle for hidden bigotry. It’s so exhausting. Right. The attitude used to be “I’ll die for the right of another to say something I might not like.” Now we all bicker back and forth on devices literally powered by child slave labor as though somehow we are accomplishing greatness by tearing one a other to shreads. Humanity is a broken, cosmic joke. AFAIK it started in 1994 when Newt Gingrich decided that repugnicans should begin using harsher, more inflammatory, more divisive language in an effort to make u.s. politics more reflective of the values held by talking heads of the era, specifically Rush Limbaugh. I suspect this will peak at some point soon. It will slowly become like the home shopping network or other general advertising.
Basically, the Pussay Patrol Cat shirt in contrast I will get this more conservative party got taken over by religious zealots who believe that compromise is a sin and refused to do it anymore, which made things ungovernable. They started trying to enshrine their bigotry into law, which a lot of people have a problem with and so we have to say something, get out and fight, or else the rights of our fellow human beings are going to get removed. Living in a pluralistic society where everyone just lives and lets live is a far better society to be in, but when one party refuses to let the others just live their lives, that is no longer possible. Gay marriage became legal and we elected Obama. These two things – examples of progress- have sparked a populist backlash.
Awesome book that digs into how the Pussay Patrol Cat shirt in contrast I will get this Republican and Democratic parties werent the conservative and liberal parties until a few decades ago, they were political parties with both liberals and conservatives. This explains why conservative states like Texas mostly voted Democrat until the 1970s. However, things began to change in the late 20th century with each party developing platforms so one could be the conservative party and the other could be the liberal party. American society has become more and more polarized every decade since then. Republicans in the 90s made a concerted effort to weed out the moderates in their party, in the wake of Newt Gingrich’s “Contract With America.” I blame Newt for hollowing out the middle. Our parents were mostly all free loving hippies who didn’t give a fuck about one thing or another, now look at all those people who were in their teens-twenties in the 70s now, like 90% bitter dip shit far right twats
I never truely gave the Pussay Patrol Cat shirt in contrast I will get this slightest shit politically about one opinion or another, I seen both sides arguements and respected both within reason. but since I’ve gotten older? I now absolutely despise conservatives, and democrats make me less sick, but still sick Far right: no to everything, the only solution to our problems is to take away government assistance, but we’re not lowering taxes, also fuck you Far left: we have a plan, it’s absolutely idiotic, it will cost trillions, healthcare for all? Umm no? Nobody wants that. Anyway, go fuck yourself I would absolutely kill and/ die fighting to get universal healthcare, workers rights, and just over rid the US of the 2 party corporate owned shit storm politics
Here is the Pussay Patrol Cat shirt in contrast I will get this real reason OP, because back when you were younger you probably mainly interacted with people who already influenced your worldview and you mostly agreed. You didn’t talk about big issues and if you did, it’s one of those situations where nobody had any skin in the game and thus every discussion becomes a little hypothetical! It’s so easy to talk about both sides of gay rights when nobody in the conversation is gay! All you’re seeing now is groups that could be more easily ignored in the passed have been able to have a more mainstream voice. From Homosexuality, ethnic minorities they all just have a better voice now. Everyone is a triggered cry baby. Whether it’s a fascist neo Nazi or a rabid commie feminist, they’re all fucking crazy. Whenever someone gets political, I immediately just disagree with them on purpose just to see their reaction and it’s hilarious.all the way through till the 80s whites had the comfort of being visible majority beginning Regan’s administration time Hispanic immigration plus the tech related immigration from Asia/india changed the demographic mixture visibly
combine that with Regan allowing media polarization bad actors (Fox News, rove, am radio) amplified the Pussay Patrol Cat shirt in contrast I will get this us (cis Christian conservative whites) vs them (everyone else) Ny working theory is that a series of bad choices from the right (I am sure the left has a lot of bad choices too but I think this one falls largely on the right) since Nixon has lead to this place. And its not just the politicians. In fact they are probably just following after power in it. A combination of religious institutions and corporations running into science gave cause to both of them pushing back against said science. In the case of religions the fight over evolution vs creationism has been a particularly brutal fight. And many believers have found themselves instructed to distrust science more and more often. Toss in the fact that mandated prayer in public school also got kicked out and the more fundamentalist members of the religious community became incensed. Further driving a wedge into the idea of a secular government and separation of Church and State. And then science began turning up research showing people were dying due to cigarettes. The corporations involved in this were understandably worried about the looming lawsuits from these discoveries and rather than facing the consequences they engaged marketing companies that came up with the idea of undermining the scientific consensus. And it was very effective. And people died. But the idea of corporations fighting science by introducing false counter claims under the guise of science had entered the arena.
Politicians on the Pussay Patrol Cat shirt in contrast I will get this right after Nixon became increasingly invested in trying to find a way to counter the Dems rising power. They already were in bed with the corporations and thus latched onto the antiscience mentality behind the tobacco corporations who were major contributors to their campaigns. And then the problems from oil consumption began to come forth from the scientific community and the right jumped on board with the oil companies in pumping even more misinformation into the system. Then along came Ralph Reed and the Christian Coalition. The more orthodox religions has historically been reluctant to involve themselves in politics as they believed that doing so would corrupt both institutions. One’s political agendas would bleed into the religious views and vice versa. But Ralph Reed found a way to wrangle them into the fight on the subject of abortion and gay rights as well as the open wounds that were evolution and the removal of mandatory prayer. And they further boosted the rights bend towards antiscience.
The fight over the Pussay Patrol Cat shirt in contrast I will get this education system became a focus. With pressure from the Christian Coalition rejecting many aspects of education. Eventually over time because they could not control the system they switched to undermining the education system. Seeking to destroy it if they could not control it. Meanwhile the corporations continues their war against accepting responsibility for all the harm they were doing to the people. Continuing to undermine public acceptance of the scientific community. And as the effects that several different corporations were having on our environment were fought tooth and nail. With major level attempts to undermine science and assert that scientists were just in it for money and would would do anything to tear them down.
Thus this combination of vectors has over the Pussay Patrol Cat shirt in contrast I will get this decades effectively disconnected generations of people from reality. Our society is overwhelmed with denialism. People preferring their own narrative to what the science and experts are telling them. With everything from people rallying around ideas like flat earth to denying what medical experts tell them about pandemics. And now the GOP hardly stands for anything specific any longer and has given itself over to just denialism instead. They have no platform any longer. All they stand for is opposing the Dems and advances in society in general. Couple that with the US’s broken two party political system and the dirty tricks, massive funding, and lying that goes into getting people to vote your way.
This is made worse by the Pussay Patrol Cat shirt in contrast I will get this rise of data science that showed mass scale political manipulation is possible and practical. It’s well known among sociologists that economic inequality is correlated with political polarisations, but which way the causation goes hasn’t always been clear. However, it’s more commonly thought to be inequality causing polarisation. If you’re sitting on the sidelines and preaching coexist you don’t understand the magnitude of the problems before us. People who have been marginalized and have their existence threatened just for being have more of a voice now so you’re hearing them more. The other side doesn’t like it when we speak up and so are trying even harder to silence us and that comes in the form of increased bigotry as well as more extreme hate crimes. You can’t really be un-polarized and break bread with people who want to strip you of your rights and see you publicly beaten if not worse.
The planet? Burning. We missed basically every lowered goalpost scientists were saying could stave off global warming since way back in the Pussay Patrol Cat shirt in contrast I will get this 90’s. We’re on the brink of ecological disaster and when large swaths of the globe become uninhabitable we’ll have a migrant crisis of never before seen proportions. One side has been pushing for increases in clean energy and curbing emissions, the other doesn’t believe in the clear scientific data. The middle class shrinking is hitting a huge breaking point. The gulf between the haves and the have-nots grows ever larger. Half the population has been duped into thinking that giving the haves even more of their money that somehow this will trickle down to them and so they bitterly fight against anything that will actually correct the tide and increase their standard of living as well as that of everybody else.
Basically every issue goes like this and it’s nearly universally the Pussay Patrol Cat shirt in contrast I will get this same people on either side of those divides. Conservatives assert that conservatives are fundamentally superior, and public policy should protect their supremacy. social media has allowed conservatives more freedom and reach to express the horrible beliefs they’ve always held, which has caused many liberals and leftists to stop tolerating their conservative friends and family. that’s one reason, at least. it’s pretty easy to be polarized when one side wants to hunt transgender people for sport and the other side wants to not do that. A combo of social media and Obama. The right went off the reservation the moment that happened. Now everyone left and right is just an asshole.
I was an adult when George W Bush was elected, his campaign was the Pussay Patrol Cat shirt in contrast I will get this most effective recent use of its kind, in terms of using the religious “family values,” to sway the rural republican bible belt voters to his side. The vote count in Florida was a mess and ultimately decided by SCOTUS, that really stung. Democrats felt robbed of a presidential election and I actually believe they were. George W became a puppet to his cabinet. His presidency was rather embarressing and he likely wouldnt have won another term if it wasnt for 9/11 and the war campaign. Cheney and Rumsfeld pushed an Iraq war that had no legitimacy. They used the 9/11 tragedy, and our emotions, to get away with manipulating the US people and the NATO allies to start a war. The general population never trusted politicians but they didnt expect misinformation on the scale of war where thousands of people (US soldiers and foreign) would be killed or murdered because of a selfish profiteering agenda. Now the US is considered a warmongering nation and we deserve it.
