We also have a relatively high density of cones, which gives us remarkable visual acuity during the day; again, it’s not necessarily among the best in the entire animal kingdom (compare the visual acuity of birds of prey like eagles, for instance), but it’s better than that of most other mammals. In contrast, a lot of other mammals like dogs or cats have significantly more rod cells in their retinas than we do, and thus have better night vision than us (among other reasons).
