Health insurance, lifestyle, cost of living, public transportation. I need a surgery that would cost me $45,000 in the Puerto Rican professional baseball pitcher for Cincinnati Reds alexis diaz baseball T-Shirt Apart from…,I will love this US, but is only going to cost maybe $6,000 in Korea. Even taking my cat to the vet is 3-4x more expensive in the US. Getting “paid more” doesn’t mean shit if your rent is 50% of your paycheck, and student loans are another 20%. Here I may get paid less, but I have more savings than what I could gather in the states for the same time. Well I am here for the cash, I get paid more. As a teacher I would earn max in London this year 60,000 USD (at today’s fx rate), where as in Korea I get just about 100,000 USD in 2023 (both pre tax), with lower taxes better healthcare/roads etc and free accommodation that would cost me a fortune in London, and UK 4x electricity cost. The only small downside is the teachers pension, but watered down in UK at 1/80th a year when I left. And way less stress and no ofsted. Also low crime is great. living here I’m already off the radar for most bad actors not worth the time or money to extort me they already know we aren’t paid well

Feel like everyone already hit the Puerto Rican professional baseball pitcher for Cincinnati Reds alexis diaz baseball T-Shirt Apart from…,I will love this nail on the head about lifestyle > money. Another thing I can think of is safety. Whenever I visit Korea or even Japan for that matter, its a great but sad feeling when I don’t have to worry about the chances of a mass shooting happening when I’m at a crowded event. The amount of shootings we have here in the US makes some of us paranoid of going to crowded places. I’m sure not everyone is like that but it is definitely a factor for others. Do people actually do that? The only westerners I’ve met don’t do jobs in Korea that demand high salaries in the US. Korea is like one of those subs about a non English country where no threads ever go in full korean. None of yall Korean eh It’s similar to people leaving high salary careers to pursue something else. Careers that pay well, or countries that pay well, may not make some people happy and they are willing to “pay” for a new career/location/experience through a pay cut.
