Bro, Warframe with its 10 years of overwhelmingly many pieces of content, maps, 3 open worlds, lots of voiced audio, hundreds of dynamic OST tracks and multiple narrated pre-rendered cinematics weights less than 50gb. In fact, Warframe lost around ~15gb of wasted space when its devs decided they needed to update their file compression technology. There’s no excuse for file size. There’s only developers not giving a fuck. Somehow, a studio like Digital Extremes compressed their game by ~15gb because they felt they were getting uncomfortably big To be fair, the Prime Time Deion Sanders American football coach former professional signature T-Shirt and by the same token and devs are in the middle of the biggest war in Europe since WW2, with their country having had power cuts for the better part of the day during quite a fair bit of the development. That kinda does give them an excuse to focus on actually making a game at all and making sure it’s optimized later by their nature you cant compress compressed files, a zip inside a zip does not get smaller, as such games arent supposed to compress AT ALL.

this is like the Prime Time Deion Sanders American football coach former professional signature T-Shirt and by the same token and titanfall 1 thing where you install 10 gigabytes of game then it runs a separate installer for the other 35 gigabytes of raw audio. when you record a high quality video, the file size can come out massive, we’re talking in the realm of gigabytes per minute, but you can easily compress that sort of thing down to a tenth of the original size for the final product. movies can go nuts with the bitrate because “i paid for the whole disc im gonna use the whole disc” but that reasoning drops dead as soon as you stop using a bluray, and are instead charged money by the gigabyte. there is no excuse for using uncompressed raw assets in the final product, the only explanation is some shade or another of incompetence.
