I’m turning 37 in a month, I’m a SAHW my hubs is 43 in the Premium jordan-all-you-need-is-love-shirt in contrast I will get this police force, we made the decision not to have children because I have severe MH illnesses I live with that run in my family, he also has MH run in his family, we lost his brother to suicide & his mum has severe anorexia & OCD. I spent most of my life from 12-22 in & out of hospitals monthly, longest stint 10months straight. Knowing it was likely these illnesses would be passed on we couldn’t in any conscience risk making a child endure what we’ve both gone through. Added to that is my hubs job, he sees the worst of humanity, we don’t like the direction the world is headed so the decision came relatively easy to us both separately before we met. We’ve been together 8yrs & now have two dogs, two nephews & five nieces who we adore & spend time as much time as we can with. We don’t feel like we are missing out on life.

People who simply don’t want children don’t regret not having them. I’m in the age range OP posted and not having kids is one of the things I’m most grateful for. My life would have been so much harder. Most people don’t regret decisions for things they always wanted. If you are on the fence you most likely want children, if you worry about regretting not having children you most likely want them. Late 30’s here close to 40, I don’t regret my decision to not have children. I have a great career and great SO. We both prefer to have dogs and cats and then spoil our nieces to no end. We are financially in a better place then a lot of people our age with children or are playing catch up from having children early in life. Honestly it’s a personal decision but if you don’t feel the need to have a family and procreate it’s a great way to live! With a lot more freedoms! 40+, had one kid, wife wanted.more but I was done (I felt like the brunt of the hard parts of having a child fell on me – wife just played and traveled with the kid and I not only had to deal with working full time and housework but also all the important healthcare and education arrangements for the child). She flipped out and divorced me, saying she was running out of time and needed to go get a kid with someone else.
