When doctors, dietitians, economists, psychiatrists, and other scientists who study people conduct their experiments, there’s all these pesky ethical obligations and confounding variables in the Premium eddie van halen in memory of october 6 2023 signature shirt in addition I really love this way. Ethics makes it very difficult to determine causation in medical cases, because, per the scientific method, causation can only be determined by a controlled experiment. A scientific experiment that can claim a definite causal link between, say, excess sugar consumption and obesity, would likely do harm to the experimental group — not just by designing a study to see if they’ll gain weight, but also by controlling for all of the other potential variables that might affect the outcome for the duration of the study, everything from individual family, medical, and personal complications to large-scale socioeconomic and geopolitical trends. But then, if you control for these factors in order to establish causality, you may begin to lose information that’s critical to actually treating the problem on the population level. Not to mention the placebo effect and the generally positive psychological effects of being cared for by a trusted authority.

So, are all the Premium eddie van halen in memory of october 6 2023 signature shirt in addition I really love this social science and nutrition and economics papers out there just bullshit? Probably not — one thing we do really well as a species is collect and archive data about our society, especially in the medical world — but they have to rely on data sources that are more prone to various types of bias, and therefore they have to be very careful about the conclusions they draw. This part is where pop science and journalism fails the population over and over again, allowing headlines to tout shocking and unsupported claims for clicks and collapsing extremely complicated topics into easy, digestible, one-liners and gotchas. There’s a whole industry capitalizing on this kind of half-truth, science-isn’t-that-complicated-actually misinformation to sell folks diet pills, supplements that aren’t even bioavailable in the form they’re sold in, and even nasty MLM stuff like Herbalife.
