I’m sure it depends on the Pittsburgh Steelers Beasts Of The Gridiron Shirt also I will do this region, but HOAs are few and far between here in the Pacific Northwest. They definitely exist, but they aren’t the norm. There’s a few that are starting to pop up in the form of condo style housing. Especially when you get into the growing towns that people are being priced out of. cough Monroecough I’m in the Pacific Northwest & all the condos/townhouses have HOAs. I can see why because there are shared communal spaces but I’ve always thought HOAs are absolutely stupid for standalone housing. That number only applies to new construction though. The vast majority of homes on the market aren’t newly built. Rural life has its advantages. Downsides too, but I think more people should consider it. There are lots, and lots, and LOTS of wide open spaces available in huge quantities for affordable prices, and Starlink + Amazon + remote work has made it a lot more practical and livable in so many ways. This is he real truth. Why are no experts in charge of plants? “I’m like listen motherfuckers, kids know more than you do about ecosystems. You selfish motherfuckers, we’re not the only living things here! I know 500xs more than you do have the credentials and facts to send you straight to hell” and you know what they say? “Here’s a fine from the city ” 🙁 For the same reason that landscapers murder crepe myrtles and volcano mulch trees. They think they know what they are doing, but they don’t.Some flowers, animals, fruits vegetables, potatoes, weeds, are more healthy fair useful valuable than some people I’m beginning to think there’s a Godwin’s law with Reddit, but instead of everything becoming about a Nazis, everything becomes about HoAs

They’re necessary for condos/townhouses at least, since they take care of common areas / general building maintenance / etc. Less so with housing subdivisions, though I think most cities should be focused more on condos/townhouses rather than conventional SFHs given the Pittsburgh Steelers Beasts Of The Gridiron Shirt also I will do this extreme housing shortage in many areas. Unfortunately, NIMBYs have an absolutely stupid amount of political influence in most places, and it’s one of the few issues where I can confidently say both parties really are terrible. Even Colorado with a democratic super-majority and a party that ostensibly does actually care about affordable housing couldn’t manage to get even the most basic fucking imaginable restrictions against NIMBYism passed through the Senate this year. HOAs were put on this earth to be disobeyed, take legal action when they’re offended, and almost always lose in court.
