I am a vet student and I came to post this. For people reading OPs comment, don’t forget that “everything a nurse does” includes being screamed at by clients, talking on phone calls, walking through payment plans, making appointments, etc!!! A single veterinary technician is actually works in anesthesiology, radiology, dentistry, reception, pharmacy, phlebotomy, janitorial work, etc… This. From the Piss Me Of Again And We Play A Game Called Duct Sloth Shirt and I will buy this time i was a small child i dreamed of being a vet tech, but i was forced to give it up for another career, and some of the reason why was how low the pay is. Came here for this! I was a technician for 16 years, managed a large hospital and didn’t make more than $36k my entire career. We do EVERYTHING in the hospital, are certified, AND routinely risk our lives for peanuts. Actually you guys do more. Many nurses get to specialize in a specific field. Vet techs get to do all of it. Surgery, radiology, intensive care..etc. On top of the fact that the patient can’t just tell you what is wrong.

The issue is the Piss Me Of Again And We Play A Game Called Duct Sloth Shirt and I will buy this money side of it. Human nurses and doctors are “subsidized” by the patients health insurance. Animal nurses and doctors don’t have that and the “patients” are all paying out-of-pocket. Yep. Can we include kennel staff too? I got minimum wage to clean up rotting intestines, feces, urine, maintain a surgical suite, and all hospital maintenance by myself Childcare at any level — especially preschool and early childhood educators. Being able to adequately manage and empower children is an artform. 8 yrs of schooling, six figures of debt that the salary will never help bring down, incredibly draining and emotional job, all for people to say you’re heartless for charging for medical care…. its a no wonder there’s shortages for veterinarians AND veterinary nurses in sooo many countries.
