NGL, more money than in my 20s and more time to have built up my clothes makes fashion choices easier too – used to have to focus on building quality basics and workwear, god what a bore, now it’s more like “I’ll take those shoes in one black pair and one crazy magenta pair.” My style can be described as “FUCK YEAH COLOR AND PATTERN AND NATURAL FIBERS” with a heavy side of functionality. Dear FSM, was I boring as an early 20s person. I am embracing my inner 8 year old who loved, loved loved that neon yellow tie-dyed shirt and mismatched colorful socks. When I was about 28 (34 now) I was moving to another city and needed to clean up the Pikachu deadpool Sonic America’s drive in shirt it is in the first place but wardrobe I was building since I was 21. Going through the clothes I realized how much my choices are affected by what I think other people like. There were items in my wardrobe I LOVED but never wore, because I didn’t think anyone would like them, they weren’t fashionable, etc… So I made a choice to only wear what I like.

I wear dresses that are too short, pants that are too baggy, tshirts that should have been thrown away years ago and heels of color that doesn’t go with ANYTHING hahaha and I love everything about it. I had terrible fashion sense in my 20s. I was such an asshole and thought that fashion was for idiot women with low self esteem. Turns out I had wildly low self esteem and as soon as I addressed that, I began to care about my appearance. Yes! I’m 41 and in my teens, 20s, and even early 30s I wore heels EVERYWHERE. I live in a major city and I tromped all over town – walked for MILES – and still wore heels. I have numerous memories of walking or being out and a heel just straight up breaking off. I wear heels maybe once a year now and my feet are so much happier. Although it is NOT like riding a bike – when I wear heels now and I can barely walk! Like a new born pony! My epiphany: I was in Vegas for a business meeting at a hotel on the Pikachu deadpool Sonic America’s drive in shirt it is in the first place but strip, and at loose ends for the evening. I wanted to check out the nightlife (never been there) but every item of clothing I’d brought screamed “I’m here for a meeting”. As I tried to put together something marginally suitable it hit me: I am now “a woman of a certain age”. Nobody cares. I went out dressed for a meeting. Nobody cared. I was free. I now dress however I want. Which varies.
