We discussed this with next door and agreed to a low brick wall between our houses at the front, then replace the wooden posts with concrete with slide in panels and we split the costs 50/50. Neither of us was certain WHO was responsible and to be honest we didn’t care. One or both of us would have had to contact our solicitors nd check the deeds and it would possible have cost about the same as what we would pay sharing the cost between us. Fast forward 10 years. Next door has changed owners. Two panels broke in a storm. We asked the young couple how much they paid for the two panels they bought to replace them so that we could pay our half. “Oh no” Laura said laughing “It’s our fence according to our solicitors so we are responsible”.

Normally you can tell who the panels belong to by which side the posts/supports etc are on (so this would be the side the fence belongs to) and that side is responsible for replacing
